Hotel at a Glance: Golden Nugget Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget Las Vegas has many of the attractions the Sin City is known for—a casino, a spa, high-end restaurants, and lounges—and none of them disappoint. Their spa offers the height of luxury with a sauna, jetted tub, and steam room as well as workout facilities. The casino features a poker room with 13 smoke-free tables and special promotions throughout the year. If gambling isn't your strong suit, there are many different shows and entertainment options to choose from including dancing at the nightclub or take in some live music with the 52 Fridays Concert Series.

  • Eat, drink, and be merry at the hotel's multiple high-end restaurants and lounges, including a hearty buffet where you can dine for either breakfast or lunch.
  • Views of the Strip are visible from Rush Tower rooms, which are 20% larger than Gold and Carson Towers rooms. All accommodations have luxurious amenities such as marble bathrooms and flat-screen TVs.
  • Game on: The hotel’s casino has won numerous awards from Casino Player magazine, including Best Casino, Best Service, and Luckiest Casino. The expansive gaming floor is filled with slot machines, as well as blackjack, roulette, and mini-baccarat tables.

Beyond the Las Vegas Strip: Old Vegas and Red Rock Canyon

It can feel like the entire city of Las Vegas revolves around the Strip if you never venture beyond that neon-lit corridor. But there’s plenty to see and do once you step off Las Vegas Boulevard. You can find a taste of Old Vegas on Fremont Street, where vintage signs and showgirls crowned with headdresses recall the days of Sinatra and Martin. Beginning at dusk, a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights erupts in a psychedelic light-and-music show every hour. For an aerial view, zoom down the center of Fremont Street on a zipline.

Nature puts on its own show at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a landscape of fiery-red sandstone formations and limestone cliffs just 17 miles outside the city. Motor down the 13-mile scenic drive or ditch the car and strike out on any of more than 20 hiking trails that course through the region’s otherworldly topography.

Mixed Stay: Great Casino Fun Overshadowed by Security Intrusion, Poor Management, and Smoke Issues I recently spent 4 days at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, attracted by its iconic downtown location on Fremont Street and classic Vegas vibe. Although it was closed the famous shark tank pool is still a unique highlight. On the positive side, the casino gaming experience was excellent—the tables were fun, and the dealers were consistently friendly and engaging, contributing to an enjoyable playing atmosphere. However, several serious issues significantly detracted from my stay. My non-smoking room was plagued by the strong aroma of cigarette smoke permeating through the vents or walls, making it uncomfortable to sleep at night. The air filtration system clearly needs upgrades to properly maintain non-smoking standards. The most unacceptable incident occurred on my third night. Despite a clearly displayed “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door handle and no housekeeping requested during my stay, two security personnel arrived unannounced and pounded aggressively on my door—like police attempting to force entry. This was alarming and intrusive. I later learned this was supposedly a “welfare check” due to not using housekeeping services, but ignoring a visible “Do Not Disturb” sign and using such heavy-handed tactics is completely unjustified and points to a severe lack of training in guest privacy and basic customer service. I might have overlooked this as a policy misstep, but the front desk and security management’s response was dismissive and unprofessional. When I reported it at the front desk, I was redirected to the security desk on the casino floor. The security representative (GNLU) took my details, but supervisor Mike Allen refused to meet with me and instructed that I file a complaint online. I couldn’t find any complaint form on the website, so I returned to the front desk to speak with the hotel manager—only to be denied and sent back to security in a frustrating loop. The front desk manager confirmed this runaround was all they could offer, showing no empathy, apology, or effort to resolve the issue on-site. Overall, while the casino delivered fun gaming moments, the security overreach, inadequate handling of complaints, and persistent smoke in a non-smoking room made for a disappointing experience. Management needs to prioritize better staff training, guest privacy, accountability, and ventilation improvements. I won’t be returning and can’t recommend it based on this stay.

Dirty Room Room was dirty. Stayed in the Rush Tower. The "bath soap" container was empty and stayed empty entire trip. Old worn out towels. Floor was dirty. Won't return.

Don’t waste your money, Dirty! Very disappointing!! Stayed in the Gold Tower Deluxe room, paid extra to be closer to Fremont street and it said rooms had been renovated! Wrong, the room was dark, looked old and dirty. Here is a picture of the tub in the bathroom! I thought this was dirty but this was stained as I tried to clean! Quick shower and out of there and also kept my slippers on as carpet also looked dirty. Casino looks good and pool looks nice but won’t ever stay there again!
