Beyond the Las Vegas Strip: Old Vegas and Red Rock Canyon

It can feel like the entire city of Las Vegas revolves around the Strip if you never venture beyond that neon-lit corridor. But there’s plenty to see and do once you step off Las Vegas Boulevard. You can find a taste of Old Vegas on Fremont Street, where vintage signs and showgirls crowned with headdresses recall the days of Sinatra and Martin. Beginning at dusk, a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights erupts in a psychedelic light-and-music show every hour. For an aerial view, zoom down the center of Fremont Street on a zipline.

Nature puts on its own show at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a landscape of fiery-red sandstone formations and limestone cliffs just 17 miles outside the city. Motor down the 13-mile scenic drive or ditch the car and strike out on any of more than 20 hiking trails that course through the region’s otherworldly topography.

Terrible!!!!!!!! I went ahead and booked a 1-night stay in two rooms for my father's 79th birthday. Due to use arriving to the hotel earlier than expected. We place our belongings in a friend's room. A few of our friends booked rooms at the golden nugget due to the celebration. (after all, there is no telling how much longer my pops will be around) We ended up getting our room keys at 4:30 pm or so from the kiosk machine. We were assigned to room 1588 and 1853. We ended up taking my dad to his room at 1:30 am due to him being tired and needed his meds. Unfortunately, we were unable to get into his room due to the keys not working. Luckly I was able to get my dad into his room with the help of security after walking back and forth. I then ended up going to the other room (1853) only to find the keys did not work. I ended up walking back and forth from the rooms to the front desk 3 times. Which ended up wasting my vacation, rest time and Sleep. Front Desk Clerk finally ended up getting Giovanni involved who found that somehow room 1853 was actually given to someone else he did not understand why I was having issues with the keys. Giovanni did explain to me that he was limited with he was able to to do, and asked me to reach out to KC. I did explain to Giovanni that due to how long it has taken me to get into a room that I should actually be given a refund for both night and 2 comp rooms for future stays. He again informed me i needed to reach out to KC. I did reach out to KC and was given the option of a refund or a 2-night comp stay for two rooms to be used within a year. I ended up choosing the refund due to me not knowing if i will make it to Vegas within the year. I was informed by KC to call back if i did not get a refund within 7 days. As of today, I have not received my refund. I have called 4 times in the last week, each time i have been told that KC is not available and that he will return my call. As of this email I have not received a call back from him with my oldest messages being about 6 days old. I find it hard to believe today is the 25th day and the issue has still not been resolved. (This issue has been a major inconvenience; I have spent about 6 total hrs. and counting on trying to get this issue resolved. Time to include walking back and forth from room to front desk due to keys not working, waiting to be allowed into my dad's room the next day due to his key not working, (my dad is in a wheelchair and requires assistance. So my brother and I help get him ready in the morning) The time i waited in line for the re issuing of keys that did not work, I have also spent time making phone calls and wait to speak to KC. At this point, i honest think the right thing to do is issue the refund ASAP and give me 2 rooms with a 2 night comp at a mini. a food credit should be added in good faith due to this experience. After all this is a hospitality business. As you can tell from this email I have been more then patient on this matter. I have not left any neg feedback prior to this email due to me thinking it would have been resolved by now. I hope to hear back management soon and hope to update this when it has been resolved.

Casino wasn’t great We came here for a little bit of gambling and it wasn’t the best. The staff seemed really slow and it seemed like the host of our roulette table was on her first day! It was a shady place and I didn’t really enjoy it. It was also hard to get a drink so I won’t be rushing back there!
