Olympia, Washington: Capital City Along Puget Sound

Washington’s capital city, Olympia, sits along the southern end of Puget Sound on the shores of Budd Inlet. The city has a small-town feel, especially when the state legislature isn’t in session. Set on a bluff overlooking the sound, the Washington State Capitol has an imposing presence. You can take a tour to see the eagles and gilded rosettes painted in its 287-foot-high dome. Afterward, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at a dockside restaurant or visit the city’s farmers’ market.

Known for having a thriving arts scene, Olympia has numerous theaters and show venues. At the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, you can see touring plays, operas, and ballets. The town has its own film festival and shows classic and independent films year-round at the Capitol Theater. For rock-history buffs, Olympia is also where Kurt Cobain wrote most of Nirvana’s iconic album Nevermind.

We had a lovely stay at the governor hotel the day after Thanksgiving. Everything was clean, the beds were very comfortable and they even gave us an early check-in. The breakfast was a decent free breakfast. We'd stay again!

Cheap for a reason This place is horribly outdated. They should have mentioned no AC when booking, a deal breaker. The sliding door doesn’t open, so no fresh air. It smelled like stale air and old cigarettes. The front desk was courteous, but room service knocked on our door at 9:30 _

Absolutely Horrible Hotel is out dated, water in all 3 rooms would go from insanely hot to cold without notice, the A/C barely worked on a normal day. When the temperature outside reached 100, the a/c didn’t work at all, requested a fan from front desk received 1 for 3 rooms. Had to get 2 fans from a local store. Requested to speak with a manager, not available. No offer to discount or other option to compensate for these issues.

Anyplace Else, Man Decent sheets and towels. Courteous service. Beyond that, this place should be burnt to the ground. Unkempt and unclean. We paid extra to be in a premium room on the top floor. Elevator opens and there’s a guy on his knees, using a fly swatter to steal snacks from the vending machine. I think we had a decent view of the lake. But there was so much bird crap splattered across our window, we could not see it. I cannot recommend this place at any price.
