Top Reasons to Visit The Graduate by Hilton Providence

  • You can fuel up with coffee and salads or sandwiches at the newly opened Poindexter Coffee on site, or at one of many restaurants within two blocks of the hotel.
  • The hotel has served as a filming location for several movies, including 27 Dresses and The Last Shot.

Providence, Rhode Island: Historical Haven for Foodies and Arts Enthusiasts

Home to Brown University, Johnson & Wales University, and Rhode Island School of Design (or RISD) among other schools, Providence is known as an educational hub. But with an active arts scene, the city has more recently been called “The Creative Capital.” Downtown, you’ll find the arts-and-theater district, where galleries and vibrant storefront displays line the streets. Stagecraft thrives at the Tony Award–winning Trinity Repertory Company, and nearby, the Providence Performing Arts Center hosts touring Broadway shows.

The city's restaurant scene rivals the arts scene in its creativity and local enthusiasm, from the enclave of Italian eateries on Federal Hill to the delis downtown. Local chefs often draw from the regional farms bordering the city for their culinary creations; many gather downtown to shop at the farmers' market.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly First the good: Design and artwork are very cool, modern. The double King suite was very spacious and comfortable. In/out privileges at the Biltmore garage was essential. Cleaning and engineering staff were amiable and awesome. Beds and pillows were excellent. Location is great in the heart of downtown and neighborhood is very safe. The Bad: No bell service to help with bags or unloading at check-in, check-out. Sliding doors didn't operate so check-in/check-out was challenging getting through weighted, heavy doors by myself. Front desk had Johnson & Wales hospitality trainees with no supervisor or manager to assist with questions or issues. Updated wall coverings (wallpaper and artwork) do not constitute an upgrade of the old, and badly need of updating bones of the Biltmore hotel. Tub shower had ok water pressure but inconsistent temperature (varied from tepid to scalding in the middle of a shower). The Ugly: You REALLY need a valet for parking or at least a connected, indoor passageway to the garage. Just terrible accessibility to the garage especially during this weekend with the Nor'easter and constant cold/rain/wind. In room dining should be offered since the dining spots in the hotel (Poindexter and the pub) are really not restaurants you want to go for sit down service. No climate control HVAC units in the rooms so there was no heat except the tiny space heater at first come first serve for guests to bear the 40 degree temps. The electronic teapot and the safe also had to be serviced because they were broken at check-in. And, please get rid of all these hidden and unreasonable costs: $10 a night "resort" fee when there's no spa, pool, or anything resort like and $34+ tax a night to self-park. At close to $600 a night, did not meet expectations for a "luxury" hotel. The rating is 3.5 to be more accurate.

Worst “Luxury” Hotel Ever Stayed for three nights to attend my 55th reunion at Brown. In my day, the hotel was called the Biltmore, and it was the best hotel in town. From the outside, it still looks nice, but the inside, not so much. I had a corner room with a sitting area and a king bed. First problem was even that even though it’s Memorial Day weekend, the weather was very cold, but the heating had been turned off because it was “summer.” Their solution was to give me an extra blanket, which I did not find acceptable. Also, I discovered on arrival that the hotel does not offer room service, which I found pretty unbelievable at the price I was paying (which had admittedly been jacked up for commencement weekend). The hotel coffee bar was hardly ever open and the one restaurant closed its kitchen at 9 o’clock sharp. I walked in two minutes before nine and was refused food service. Finally, the room had a vaguely dank smell. I don’t know what caused it. The bathroom is old fashioned — I would recommend a remodel. This was a disappointment in almost every way imaginable. There are several other downtown hotels and I would choose any one of them over this one.

Smells bad, overpriced Smells horrible, staff is so unhelpful, and never stayed at such a bad hilton. Could not even get a glass for my room, to drink out of. Smells so bad could not sleep and makes you want to throw up. Would never go back here to stay, would rather stay in a motel 6.
