Property at a Glance: Grand Canyon Western Ranch

Ranches dot the Southwest, but how many of them were once owned by a member of Butch and Sundance’s Hole in the Wall Gang? That’s the claim that Grand Canyon Western Ranch can make thanks to the original owner and gunfighter Tap Duncan. Today, the ranch is an ideal escape just two hours southeast of Las Vegas.

  • Rustle up some grub at the Historic Ranch House, which specializes in Western homestyle cooking.
  • Gather around the nightly campfire to swap stories or just enjoy live performances by cowboy musicians.
  • Cowboy entertainment includes music, singing, and stories.
  • Escape daily distractions: There’s no Internet or TVs on the property, and cell service is limited.

Meadview, Arizona: Desert Landscape Surrounded by Red Rock Canyons

Grand Canyon West, a tourist destination owned by the Hualapai Nation, is just 15 miles northeast of Grand Canyon Western Ranch. Although the area is not a part of Grand Canyon National Park, it showcases similarly breathtaking views of striated red rock canyons and the Colorado River. Some of the best views are visible from the Skywalk, a U-shaped glass bridge suspended 4,000 feet above the canyon floor. While here, hike to scenic vistas or take a walking tour of authentic Native American dwellings, where you’ll see live performances.

Drive about 90 minutes east to get to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Largemouth and striped bass and bluegill crowd the lake’s waters, making it an ideal spot for canoeing, picnicking, and fishing.

Family friendly ranch experience What a wonderful experience we had at the ranch, from check in to check out we were made to feel so welcomed. The ranch has lots on offer from horse riding to shooting lessons. The staff were so friendly, the restaurant was great and the food choices extensive and delicious. Campfire singing and s'mores with Cowboy Casey were brilliant and such a fun way to meet others. My highlight was a personal shooting lesson with Cowboy Casey, he made me feel at ease with easy instructions and I even managed to ding the bell with a couple of my shots. If you don't mind rustic then you must go to the ranch, you won't regret it!!

One night stop before GC Only stayed here one night but couldn’t be happier with the accommodations. I normally only stay at chain hotels (Hilton/Hyatt/Mariott) because frankly I am worried about the unknown of an independent operation. The service and value provided at the ranch were better than anything I have experienced in the past 10 years of travel. Views and service were amazing. Great for a one night or week stay in my opinion.
