Kennebunkport, Maine: Coastal Village Lined with Centuries-Old Homes

Situated on the southern coast of Maine, Kennebunkport is more than 300 years old, with many homes dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the town is notable for being a summer destination for the well-heeled, including former president George H. W. Bush. Take a trolley ride to get a nice view of both Kennebunkport and its neighbor Kennebunk, as well as the coastline and a handful of beaches.

Kennebunkport’s Dock Square is lined with art galleries, bookstores, and restaurants housed in classic New England clapboard buildings. Nearby, Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge stretches along 50 miles of coastline and acts as a sanctuary for migratory birds and runaway teen marine biologists. The refuge features nature trails that wind past a variety of habitats, including estuaries, salt marshes, and boreal forest.

The hotel was wonderful and the stay was very comfortable. Kim was such a great help to us and would recommend staying here if in Maine.

Disappointing and rude staff Not a 4 star hotel. First of all the lady behind reception was rude and unwelcoming. She didn’t even acknowledge us most of the time and when we asked for simple things it seemed like too much effort. The hotel had water taps and even a bar but she said she couldn’t fill up our water bottles so we had to go through hundreds of little ones which was such a waste of plastic. Breakfast was very poor (with nowhere to actually eat it), why would you provide jam butter and spreads when there wasn’t even toast! I asked for a different cereal and again that was too much effort. Really disappointed in this stay. The Irish bar across the street played extremely loud music until late so we couldn’t sleep. We would not return or recommend to stay here.

Be Aware This hotel did not measure up, and we fully understand we visited during high season. The location is great and overall the rooms are clean. That being said the following are areas of which to be aware before booking: * arriving at 1:30 we waited for 15+ minutes for someone to work the desk so we could drop our luggage. A sign informed us they would be right back, or we could call or text to inform them we were waiting. After 15 minutes we finally texted the number on the sign, waited 5 more minutes. When no text response was sent, and no one appeared we decided to walk around and return later. *we booked a “cozy” room as we don’t spend much time inside, however, there was no chair or bench on which one could sit - we did review this before we booked and the online photo displays a chair and an end table in the room, also be aware the armoire closet is very small and so narrow our clothes hung diagonally *breakfast- although sufficient choices were offered, food was not quickly restocked, in addition the breakfast area provided only outdoor tables on which to eat…so during the rainy morning this did not work, and with nowhere to sit in our “cozy” room, breakfast was uncomfortable at best *Staff was not guest aware - in addition to not working the front desk upon our arrival, not responding to a text, not stocking breakfast offerings in a timely manner, the service staff tied up the elevator and blocked walkways with the laundry and trash *bathroom- overall very clean but there was mold on the shampoo/soap bottles in the shower, see photos To conclude, though it was high season, this is not what one would expect for $500 per night

A warm and comfortable hotel in a good location This is a charming small hotel in the center of town. Comfortable, large room, great service by staff. Continental breakfast, including great, warm muffins. Part of the breakfast included pre-packaged cereals. As the only ones available that morning were all sugared cereals, staff went out to the store to search for better ones.
