Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Disney Springs® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever This was the worst experience I have had at a hotel. I changed rooms twice and all three were dirty and damp. The thermostat is set on 65 degrees and, if moved, the front desk claims that is what causes the carpets to be wet, the bathroom floor to be wet with long hairs embedded, and bedding, toilet tissue and towels to be wet. I was given 3 bath mats and towels to place on the floor so I wouldn’t slip. I had to put my underwear and leather sandals in my car to stay dry. Parking at the hotel is at a cost and, in order to get your paper permit, you must go across the lobby and listen to a sales pitch about a hotel club. Unfortunately I was unable to cancel my reservation and move to another hotel. Management has ignored my letter and pictures. The shuttle to Disney runs once per morning at 7:15 ( breakfast is at 7:00) and the return shuttle is at 9pm. Since the Animal Kingdom closes at 6pm I had to pay for parking at Disney. My advice is to avoid this hotel!

Not so Grand hotel universal boulevard The name Grand hotel suggests much more than it provides. Yes the room we had was clean. But breakfast was poor, cold turkey burgers, cold rubbery egg and pancakes. Also small muffins that were dry and tasteless. There was a microwave to warm things up but again unappealing. The only cereal available was fruit loops. The 1 morning there was no milk and no staff around to ask for the machine to be topped up. So we lived on toast and yogurt. Thank god I took teabags because all there was were flavoured teas. My husband booked through the hotel website but on arrival we were told this was not the price we will be paying another nearly an additional 200 pounds was added if we had known this we would have booked another hotel that we were familiar with. We booked because it was cheaper than the other hotels in the area.
