Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Tropical Paradise with Cosmopolitan Flair

Puerto Vallarta is perhaps Mexico’s most sophisticated vacation destination, with expansive beaches, trendy restaurants, and cobblestone streets leading to beautifully preserved 19th-century churches. A 16-block boardwalk known as the malecón offers unobstructed ocean views as it extends from the city center, past fountains and a famous 9-foot-high statue of a boy riding a seahorse.

Called “the most gay-friendly city in Mexico” by Frommer’s, Vallarta draws a diverse crowd of vacationers intent on relaxing during the day and living it up at night, bouncing between the city’s numerous dance clubs. For a glimpse of the city’s history, head to Viejo Vallarta, also known as Old Town, where artists peddle shawls and piñatas and mariachi bands serenade couples dancing on Plaza Principal.

Pure Luxury. Pure Bliss. Pure Perfection. Our first trip to Puerto Vallarta and WOW did we pick the right place to stay. The Grand Miramar is situated on the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, just a few miles outside of the historic city center. Staying here made for a glorious, stress-free, zen-like experience. From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were struck with the beauty of the views of Banderas Bay. The beauty we saw outside was reflected inside as well - the hotel is modern, chic and immaculate. In fact the hotel is surrounded by beauty, with the lush rainforest behind you and the bay in front of you; everywhere you looked was gorgeous. Upon arrival, we were ushered to couches to rest, given water, and staff took care of us. Check-in was not at a desk; it was a simple process and practically did everything from the couch. Once all the paperwork was taken care of, we shown our room... or should I say suite! The room was huge and opened up to views of the bay. Again the decor was modern and updated. Plenty of sockets to charge cameras, phones, ipads and anything else we brought. There was a stand-up shower and a soaking tub for achy bodies tired from all that touring. The king bed had a fan above it for air circulation. And the hotel supplied bottled water each day. What else could you want? Well, how about pools (yes, multiple) with views, a rooftop bar to watch the insane sunsets, a beautiful breakfast suite overlooking colorful flowers and pools, a jacuzzi big enough that you don't have to get too close to anyone, AND food, glorious food. Wow, we have nothing but compliments for the chef at the Grand Miramar... the molcajutes were incredible. What really makes this place top-tier was the staff... we felt like we made friends in a few days. They truly cared about you and your experience. And they cared about you and your safety. Every day, when we left, they logged our travels and when we returned they checked us off their sheets. They remembered what we were doing and always asked about our experiences. Their investment in our whereabouts made us feel safe. And whenever we had an issue, someone was there to assist. For example, I lost our voucher for our return trip to the airport - the front desk staff called the company and relied all of our information to ensure that they still picked us up. For anyone concerned that they are too far from the "fun", let me assure you that you are a short cab ride away from downtown. It was roughly 90-150 pesos to get to the heart of downtown or the marina (for any cruises you might do). And the hotel staff is able to call a cab at moment's notice! Easy, convenient and super safe. When we return to Puerto Vallarta, we will choose to stay here again. It was luxurious, relaxing and simply fantastic... we wished we could stay longer! Thank you everyone for an incredible visit.

Best views of the ocean and city ! Huge Suites with stunning views from your balcony. Our vacation stay at Grand Miramar exceeded our expectations! The views of the ocean and city are stunning! We choose a Junior Suite , over 1000 square ft, huge suite, kitchen, living room, huge walk in shower with separate soaker jetted tub. The customer service was TOP NOTCH, all the workers are very friendly and professional! The breakfast buffet was delicious with stunning views overlooking the ocean. Ulises Lopez was an outstanding waiter who went above and beyond each day we had breakfast at Cielo Lindo. Abel and Edwin at Cielo Lindo were always ontop of everything, they also provided outstanding service. We decided to have dinner at the Eugenia at the rooftop pool, the views of the sunset were empecable! Perfect place to end your vacation stay. Luis at the Eugenia was our waiter, he went above and beyond. Outstanding customer service. He was very professional and made our dinner feel very romantic with lighting a tea light at our table. Food was DELICIOUS and very affordable. We have traveled to Vallarta many times and we have stayed at other resorts and we gotta say Grand Miramar will be our first choice of stay from now on! Thanks to all the wonderful staff there , we will be booking our vacations at Grand Miramar from now on. The only request I would have for Grand Miramar is to have chilaquiles at your breakfast buffet and to upgrade to a bigger shower head! Huge beautiful shower but the current shower head did not do justice for the size of the shower other than that, our stay was the best we have stayed in Vallarta! Thank you Grand Miramar for making our wedding anniversary a great one ! We will definitely be returning. Freddie & Anna E

Hotel does not like children Do not take kids or family. Manager Martin Rueles has ruined this resort. Sterile & unwelcoming. Kids restricted from majority of resort. My 3rd visit was greeted at check-in by stormtroopers telling us for 10 minutes where the kids cannot go. Meanwhile the resort is empty and nothing to do. No music, no entertainment. Manager should be fired immediately and implement someone smarter.

Amazing People & Place! This was my first time to Puerto Vallarta, and I was so impressed! The staff at Grand Miramar was amazing. Salvador and Luis were always eager to help with anything we needed. There was an awesome bartender by the pool - I can’t remember his name - but he was so fun. Every time we saw him, he had a big smile and we would joke about our favorite drinks - “Holy Water” & “Mexican Champagne”. _ Also, the property was beautiful! I will definitely be coming back!
