Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún's Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it's a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun.

Terrible Hi. We were previously here a few years ago and our kids at that time, approx 1 yr and 4 yrs especially enjoyed the kiddo zone/ kids club. Years later with our kids now 3 and 7, we ONLY returned to this resort because of the kiddO zone. When we arrived on our first day, to our surprise, we were told that kids under 4 years were NOT allowed. This was never stated on thier website or their hotel representative that we spoke to prior to booking. Of course if we knew this we would have NEVER rebooked this hotel. Now we have 5 days here and feel that we completely WASTED out money. The food has gotten worse based on our first day but more importantly NOONE is willing to help. We spoke to 4 different people including assistant director Jonathan Rodriguez. Noone is even willing to assist. At least make and exception and allow the child that is 3.6 years old to enter to compensate for thier complete lack of responsibility and transparency. Their people skills are so poor that I won't waste time writing more. Please do NOT come to this hotel. Or at least ask every possible question you can think of before you arrive. As their website is not updated. This is the first day and our vacation is off to a bad start!!

Avoid at All Costs – Disappointing Experience As someone who works in hospitality and manages guest experiences in New York City, I can say this resort was extremely disappointing and felt like a complete scam. From misinformation to outdated facilities, nothing about this stay felt like a true vacation. Service was below average across the board, and the food was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. The “better” restaurants, such as Benazuza, come with an additional fee ($46 per person) for a very small tasting menu of about 14 courses. Booking reservations was frustrating — I repeatedly received the runaround. Staff told me to book with the concierge, but they didn’t even know what restaurants had menus, and at times suggested walking over to the restaurants, only to find no menus posted. The buffet restaurants, particularly Tatish and Tun Kul, were terrible. Breakfast was disappointing — it felt as if they were feeding homeless people rather than paying guests — and dinner was mediocre at best. Even simple items like Greek yogurt were missing from the buffet. Rooms are outdated, coffee shops serve terrible coffee and stale baked goods, and cocktails were unremarkable. I ended up going next door to the Hyatt to get a decent meal. The gym is large, but the turf is ripped and the equipment is rusty. It’s easy to see why this resort ranks near the bottom (37 out of 38) on the Cancun coast. This is not a vacation — it’s a frustrating experience that will leave you upset. I strongly advise avoiding this resort at all costs.
