Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún's Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it's a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun.

"Not all inclusive..... Just all-Inconvenient" I am someone who travel a lot especially to all inclusive resorts an I rarely leave negative reviews, but my stay at the Grand Oasis Cancun All Inclusive was incredibly disappointing. If I could give it less then 1 star I would. We were so disappointed with Grand Oasis Cancun. Rooms are outdated, and the bathroom was unsafe -- the shower was broken and we had to call to get it fixed. Yes they came up and fixed it within 20 minutes but it should have not been this way. The tub is so high it was hard to get out. It has a half glass that the water leaks out and gets everything wet that you could slip and fall unsafe. Restaurants were limited by bracelet color which we where never told and the restaurant we needed reservations for was always full. Which left us with no choice but to go to the buffett where the food was bland with little variety. We couldn't even get ice cream because of the color bracelet we had. We were sent somewhere else--already closed my son was so dissapointed. Beach towels were nearly impossible to get. Some staff were nice. other rude and bothered because you asked them a question or asked for help with something. Birds constantly hovered over the outside dining area, one scared my son so badly he dropped his food. Entertainment was minimal and underwhelming. Worst part? They pushed us into a 90 minutes tour that turned into a 3 hour of hard selling membership. I would never buy into this hotel. I would go on but could only write but so much here. This is NOT truly all inclusive. Save your money! Very disappointing experience -- Not worth it. Wouldn't recommend to others.

I would give ZERO stars if I could All-IN-clusive of disappointment! The entire resort operated on a level of chaos that would make a clown convention look organized. I spent half my vacation wandering around trying to find basic amenities and no one knew anything. The staff is misinformed at its highest level. The drinks were another level of awful. The most undrinkable concoctions were being served. Don't ask for wine because is not included anywhere except the buffet. The inclusive part meant inclusive of lukewarm mystery meat at every meal and watered down cocktails that tasted vaguely of fruit and regret. We ended up paying more to upgrade our bracelet with promises of better service and more options. Man were we wrong! Save your money and don't waste your time coming to this awful place. A vacation ruined for us. Enjoyed NOTHING at this place.

Asco de lugar, disrespect to the fullest scammers ⭐ DO NOT STAY HERE — THIS HOTEL IS A SCAM ⭐ This is hands-down the WORST hotel experience I’ve ever had. If you’re thinking of booking here — don’t. It’s not just bad, it’s disrespectful, dirty, corrupt, and built around scamming tourists. ⸻ _ CHECK-IN IS A NIGHTMARE You’ll wait in line forever, just to be bounced around from person to person. We were sent to VIP check-in after waiting 2 hours, then denied service. Nobody knows what they’re doing, and no one cares. They just waste your time and pass you around until you give up. ⸻ _ ROOMS ARE FILTHY AND A JOKE • Toilet had pee all over the seat • Mini bar was empty, but they tried to charge us to “refill” it • We paid for an ocean view and got a view of palm trees When we asked for basic things like plates for coffee? They said NO — and literally asked “What do you need them for?” ⸻ _ STAFF IS RUDE AND UNTRAINED They act like they’re doing you a favor for staying there. Worst part? We caught them talking about scamming us in Spanish, assuming we didn’t speak it. Said things like: “Cóbrenles más” (“Charge them more”) — right in front of us. Staff insult guests, refuse help, and treat you like dirt. One literally told us: “I’m not your worker” when we moved a chair. ⸻ ⚠️ THE ELEVATOR IS A SAFETY HAZARD It literally drops a level if too many people use it. Also: no inspection certification posted. ⸻ _ TAXI SCAM & UBER BAN They block Uber from entering so they can push overpriced taxis. • Tried to charge us 2,000 pesos ($100) for an airport ride • When we refused, they said: “Chingues a tu madre” • We had to walk to the street with my elderly mother-in-law to get a $15 Uber Even worse? They were using walkie-talkies to tell staff to charge us more because we “seemed desperate.” ⸻ _ CHECKOUT SCAM • Came down at 6:30 AM for a 7 AM airport shuttle • One room allowed express checkout, the other wasn’t • No one was helped until 7:05 AM — after the shuttle left • Staff told us to talk to the taxi guy instead _ This happened to many families — people were stranded, nearly missed flights. Clearly intentional. ⸻ _ CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD They’ll try to double-charge you. Don’t trust a single transaction — check everything. ⸻ ❌ BOTTOM LINE: DO. NOT. STAY. HERE. This place is a scam hotel run by unqualified, rude, and shady staff. The service is trash. The rooms are dirty. The whole operation is built to take your money and give you nothing in return. ✅ Stay at Krystal or Riu — they’re just down the road and 100x better. This place? It should be shut down and bulldozed.
