Hotel at a Glance: Grand Sierra Resort and Casino

In USA Today’s 2018 10 Best Awards, readers voted Grand Sierra the No. 3 Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas. The casino is the resort’s crown jewel, stretching across more than 80,000 square feet lined with gaming tables and multiple types of slots. But the 4-star resort doesn’t just cater to the 21-or-older crowd—it also has all-ages activities like bowling and bumper cars for guests traveling with kids.

  • Multiple restaurants ranging from Certified Angus Beef USDA prime steaks at Charlie Palmer Steak to Italian dishes and pho at the Grand Buffet.
  • Bringing the heat: An outdoor pool area with fire pits is open all year.
  • Family-friendly fun: Grownups and little ones can skate around a seasonal ice rink or play arcade games.
  • Best way to spend winnings: indulging in a spa treatment like a Swedish massage.

Reno, Nevada: Casino City with Arts and Outdoor Adventure

Reno lives up to its billing as “The Biggest Little City in the World” thanks to its flashy casinos, cultural centers, and restaurants worthy of a much larger metropolis, all packed together on Virginia Street. If you need a break from courting Lady Luck at the big gaming palaces such as Circus Circus and Harrah’s (which was born here), head to the Truckee River Arts District to explore the Nevada Museum of Art and the National Automobile Museum. Because of its location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and just east of Tahoe National Forest, the city also puts visitors within reach of rushing rivers and high mountain ranges for hiking, rafting, and gold-rush reenacting.

The bed was heaven. The room was Nice. A few minor things. The coffee pot still had used coffee pods in it, as if it wasn’t cleared in between guests. The shower ceiling was leaking a bit when turned on. And some drawers wouldn’t close.

Great family hotel. We got a room with view of the snowy mountains. There is a fridge, coffee maker with two water bottles and coffee packs. There is no microwave so if you need one for little kids come prepared for that. We went swimming in the heated pool, roasted marshmallows at the fire pit, played at the arcade and went to the movies. Restaurants need require reservations- easily done website

So much stuff to do in this place. Came for my first time and will choose this resort every time I go. 50 minutes away from Tahoe, 8 minutes away from downtown. California Pizza kitchen was wonderful and affordable. I had drinks, dinner and desert with my husband for $73 before tip! That’s a great price for Reno I feel. Walmart right across the street, and so much more

Great place to stay at! I stayed in the A Tower which has been newly renovated and the room was clean, spacious, and cozy. Our room had a view to the pool which was very nice. I definitely recommend staying here!
