Two Harbors, Minnesota: Quiet Town Along Lake Superior

Two Harbors sits on the shores of the largest freshwater lake in the world: Lake Superior. It’s the top draw for most visitors, many of whom are lured by the Split Rock Lighthouse that juts over the water on a scenic crag. Gooseberry Falls State Park also occupies a prime spot along the lake, featuring three gorgeous waterfalls created by Gooseberry River’s lakeward trajectory through a rocky gorge. The park also features 20 miles of hiking trails and 15 miles of paved bike paths, many of which feature views of the falls.

Just 25 miles to the south sits Duluth, named the “Best Outdoors Town in America” by Outside magazine in 2014. Along the edge of the water, Duluth’s Lakewalk attracts joggers, bicyclists, and skaters, as well as provides access to the city’s waterfront pubs, ice cream parlors, and shops. For a night on the town, head to Canal Park, a warehouse district where the buildings have been converted into restaurants, cafes, and shops. Canal Park also sits near the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, whose interactive maritime exhibits greet over 400,000 out-of-towners annually.

How long should people wait for service? My husband was seated and ordered a beer as they sat him while I played with the grandkids outside. Twenty plus minutes the kids and I joined him and he still hadn’t gotten his beer. Then we waited maybe 10 minutes and I approached the host stand and asked for service. Another table was seated near us and got help in a timely manner. Ten more minutes he brought waters and I asked to put an order in and we sat at least 5 more minutes and my husband had had it. It would be different if it was busy but we were one table of 3 in the whole restaurant. A bit more customer service would be helpful.

Very rough wedding weekend We got married at Grand Superior and they made any already stressful situation 10x worse. We arrived the day before our wedding and had plans to go hiking and out to eat with family, but couldn't do those things because our first room had no AC and we couldn't leave our dogs there because it was so hot. Our dogs were actually crying in our suite because of the heat. They moved us to a second cabin that again had no AC, the unit was just blowing hot air even though it said it was set at 64. My parents AC was also broken, but their second room acutally had functioning AC. By the time we made it to our 3rd room it was too late in the day to do anything and I couldn't even unpack the stuff I needed to prepare for my wedding because we were only going to be in that room for 1 night, and then move to another room for the next night. I had to get ready for my wedding in my parents suite and nothing was organized the way it needed to be because there were too many people in there and all of my stuff was in different boxes and suitcases. We got some money back, but I paid over $10K to have my wedding there. I wish I would have chosen a different venue.

Great place-beautiful location. Beautiful location! Accommodations were excellent. Extremely updated and clean. Staff was wonderful. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Both meals were outstanding. Great place for families-bikes, fire pits, and complimentary s’mores!
