Location is great but not a luxury hotel The location is excellent. Literally a two minute walk down path to the base area. We also found the staff to be very friendly -- shout out to the bartender (I believe his name was JP?) in White Rabbit. Check in was pretty seamless. We echo some of the other reviewer comments. We were only staying for one night and paid a pretty reasonable rate. I would be bothered by paying high season rates for what you got in the room. While the renovation is cute, it felt a little slapdash and budget. The TV had basic - I mean basic - cable only and felt like it was from the 90s. The bed linens felt like a budget hotel. There was what felt like a pretty big depression in the floor. It feels like they took a pretty tired vintage hotel and slapped some cosmetic changes. We appreciated the noise machine and didn't have the issue that the room was loud that some others noted. Rooms are small. There was a fridge, which is nice. Again, not a problem for us for what we were there for and we weren't expecting a luxury hotel -- but nevertheless, could see irritation at paying a luxury price point.

A tired hotel that is way overpriced In retrospect, we should have read reviews before booking this. Agree that the room was very basic and dated and small, and the noise from the people in the room next to us was as if they were in our room. We booked a room with a balcony, but were put in a basement room with no balcony. The restaurant is awful. And so overpriced-- a plate of eggs with toast and potatoes $30-- overcooked and dry. Dinner was equally dreadful.

1* Motel with 4* marketing We were considering membership so wanted to check the place out. We were shocked by the poor quality of the property and terrible condition of the rooms. This is a 1* motel with 4* marketing. The room was falling apart, very tired with the most ancient and ludicrously noisy air unit. We could hear everything our neighbors said and they were not speaking loudly. There’s no sound proofing at all. Though the location is great- we were kept awake most of the night by hotel noise and up with the larks the beeping grooming machines which park nearby. I’m surprised to see so many positive reviews. I definitely wouldn’t return.

I'm not a gambler If the third time is the charm, I am not sure if I can suffer another stay to find out. After a two-year break, we thought we would give Gravity Haus another try since the location was so great. Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly. We had to laugh when they gave us one drink token when we checked in. We said that there were two of us but they said they only give out one per reservation. At $750 per night, that’s the freebie? One free cup of coffee is not that big of a freebie. Whatever. The staff are generally nice. They are just young and inexperienced - not trained in hospitality which is not their fault. Rooms are short on space. A room with two queen beds has enough space for two people but any more people than that and you’d have stuff all over the floors. No luggage rack so we are spread out. Not enough hangers for two of us to stay four nights. At times the hallways and lobby were like walking through a teenage boy’s bedroom - so many things to step over and around. No desks or tables in the rooms so the lobby area is usually pretty full of people on their laptops or playing games or just hanging out. It took all day for our room to be cleaned by 4:30 pm, and that was after we reminded them at 3 pm. Not enough housekeepers but they should just be transparent about it and let the guests know. This was after our 2nd night. I left a $5 tip for the housekeeper because I knew she was busy but when I came back to see that she hadn’t swapped out the dirty coffee mugs but left extra coffee, I had to do a little eye roll. You can smell marijuana drifting in the hallways and into your room at all hours of the day. Even at 3:30 am when I woke up after hearing some noises. Shouldn’t my neighbors call it a night and go to sleep? Customer service training wouldn’t hurt. When we went up to the breakfast area, there was a sign to wait to be seated. We stood there for 10 minutes while three employees looked at us and walked around. We finally asked the barista if we were supposed to order and then sit down and she told us the restaurant wasn’t even open. Why didn’t someone ask us if we needed help? I talked to someone later in the day, and they had previously had the same experience on an entirely different visit. Dogs. Lots of dogs. Most were well-behaved. Did not really like stepping around the pee and poop residue marks around the property. Wish they had a designated relief area. Check all USB-C ports. Don’t plug in and go to sleep because you may get one (or two) that don’t work. It would take a super cheap price for me to stay here again.

Expensive Motel 6 Price and hidden fees: I paid way more for the stay here than the price I booked it for, due to nickel-and-dime fees for every little thing. On top of the original rate with taxes and fees, they charge $15 per day for parking, $20+ for resort fees, and then I was charged additional taxes and fees that they add on to the parking and resort fees. WTF?? All in all, a room that was advertised for $144 turned out to be $200 per night. I wasn't informed and this information was not provided when I book the room, or I would have stayed somewhere else. I paid $200 per night for a BASEMENT room. Yes, the basement. Weird Layout: They advertise the hotel as being new, but it is an old building with a weird layout inside. This hotel is advertised as luxury, but it is nothing more than a glorified Motel 6 with a bar. The second floor rooms were actually two floors down from the ground level, and the fourth floor was one floor up from the ground level. There were no stairs up to the fourth floor, only the tiny elevator. I brought my mountain bike, and even when I took the front wheel off, I still couldn't fit it in the elevator. I had to lug it up and down two flights of stairs to get to my room. It's noisy: I don't think the person upstairs from me was trying to be loud, but they sounded like an elephant stomping around. Like any cheap motel, I constantly heard people talking in the hallway and doors slamming loudly. I knew when I walked in the room and saw a white noise machine, it was there for good reason. It's a cheap old motel with poor noise insulation. Water Pressure and Bed: The pillows were okay. At least they weren't flat, but they were small. The bed felt like a cheap spring mattress and I woke up feeling exhausted. The water pressure for the shower was very weak and the hot water did not last very long. I barely rinsed the shampoo out of my hair before it ran out. Staff: The staff at the bar and over the phone were rude, but it's Steamboat, and everyone is kind of a d-bag in that town. The girl at the desk wasn't totally rude, just really fake- you know, the dead eyes and teeth-clenched smile kind of fake. When I expressed discontent over all the hidden fees and the basement room, she just rehearsed her lines. I can't be mad though... she does work the night shift in a crappy hotel. Food and snacks: They charge 2-3x the price for snacks and drinks than what you would pay at a grocery store. I arrived at 8:30 PM, and the restaurant was already closed. I wasn't even aware of a breakfast option at the hotel, because that info was not provided online or in my confirmation. However, I saw other reviews stating that the breakfast was not free. Airbnb vs crappy hotel: Just like other reviewers mentioned, there's no reason to stay here unless you have a pet and you want to be close to the lifts in winter. Otherwise, there are no views and it is further from town. The previous night, I stayed in a guest house on Airbnb for $120 total. It was quiet, clean, comfy, cute, had a full kitchen, deep bathtub, free off-street parking, and a pretty view. Now, I know that the housing market sucks in Steamboat because of all the vacation homes. Half of them are owned by out-of-staters and foreigners who bought up investment properties. Sustainability ethics now suggest staying in hotels instead of vacation homes, to allow locals housing options. I would never rent a vacation home from a foreigner, but if maybe, just maybe, if hotels were more pleasant experiences, then people wouldn't flock to the vacation homes that are a much better value and experience.
