Orlando, Florida: World-Famous Theme Parks and Cultural Surprises

Located in the center of Florida, Orlando may be forever associated with the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks—the world’s most-visited entertainment resort. Spanning roughly 30,000 acres, it encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Disney Springs® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day by boarding a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. Walk across the park to sample Moroccan cuisine for lunch, or ride a dune buggy through a haunted mansion. Before heading back to the hotel, take in the nightly fireworks, laser, and water show. One of the most popular family destinations in the world, sunny Orlando is also home to Universal Orlando—which includes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—SeaWorld, and Gatorland.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which hosts family-friendly improv shows five nights a week.

Big resort with tons to do. It was clean and nice except the hallway carpet had a smell. But the lobby and the apartment was nice and clean. Loved the pools and the waterpark.

Great stay! We really enjoyed the spacious condo as a home base while visiting Orlando. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, and there was some very basic cooking equipment, a roll of paper towels, enough dishwasher detergent for a load of dishes, and a single package of soap for the washing machine. No hot pads, or dish towels were in our room. Beach towels for the pool and water park were provided. There was a TV in each room and the living room. Our only complaint was the check-in line was very long and the room was not ready for over 2 hours after the published check-in time. They did however make it right with credit towards dinner. We didn't use the shuttle service to the 2 or 3 parks that they shuttle to. The little grocery store on site is fairly overpriced. We bought butter there for $10 (2 sticks), k-cups $2 each. There is a Publix @ Summer Bay grocery store about 9 minutes drive away. Overall we enjoyed the space and the grounds. There is a parking fee each day to be aware of that was not charged with the price of the condo.

Mixed bag at the Grove Resort When I chose to book Grove Resort, I really felt strongly that it would be a solid 5 stars. There are definitely some great things going on at this resort-- so I will start with that. First off, cleanliness of the resort grounds-- everything was orderly and clean outdoors and in the public areas. The two-bedroom condo was spacious and comfortable, and I felt it was a fair price. The amenities were definitely nice-- great pools, a fun waterpark, and even a little fishing lake that my son loved! The location was neighboring Orlando-- which simply means that when you want to get to Universal by rope drop, you have to leave super early as the traffic is horrendous, but that is Orlando! I now would like to explain a couple of things that could definitely be improved with this property. At check-in, we arrived around 8pm. The lady we talked with at the front desk was lovely, let us know that housekeeping/security had to go into the room to inspect it before we brought our things to the room. This was done quickly; we parked and went to the room. We entered and found that the freezer on the fridge was left wide open with ice cream melted inside. We also noticed that there were no towels and in fact dirty towels and sheets left in the closet. There were no clean linens for the sofa bed either. After calling down to the front desk 3 times, we finally got everything situated around 12:30. Fast forward to check out day. I had asked 2 previous employees if we could please pay for the late check-out as we had an early evening flight and did not want to waste the day. I was told that could "probably" be accommodated. I went down early the morning of check out to confirm everything and was told by a very rude gentleman that we could not have the late check out. He proceeded to tell me that we had to be out at the very latest 11 am. I then checked to see if there was availability online for a room on that day--as I was told they were "at capacity." I found that there were rooms available so I went to ask again if we could just rent the room for Thursday as well, willing to pay an extra night. He proceeded to tell me that I had to call a 1-800 number to make that reservation. I immediately asked to speak to the manager--- who was absolutely lovely. She very nicely accommodated us to stay until we had to leave for our flight. Cantina is lovely and made our day. She truly took care of her customers, and we appreciated that very much. I would also like to mention at this point that the gentleman at the front desk was also quite rude to some other guests in front of me in line-- raising his voice at them and telling them that he " didn't speak Spanish, so he did not know what to tell them." In my eyes, this man should not be allowed to work with customers as his attitude was poor at best. When you work in hospitality, you probably might need to figure out the language barrier instead of yelling at people. That is just my two cents. We were approved to stay late (thank you Cantina)--so we spent half the day soaking up the Florida sun. When we were ready to pack up, we went upstairs and our key did not work. The housekeeper was waiting at the door for us to come out. She could not authorize us to go in the room, so I had to make another visit down to the front desk to get a key. Luckily, this time, a new employee was at the desk and very easily got us into the room. The late checkout was clearly not communicated with the housekeeping staff, as she had no idea of the change. I felt bad that we were wasting her time because she had not received the memo that we were checking out late. I take writing reviews seriously and I love to inform future customers on what they might encounter when they book a new place. I really want to love the Grove Resort and I think I could, but I felt I needed to objectively state what happened on our trip. I really do hope this helps Grove make the improvements that they need to make- because me and my family would certainly love to give this place another shot!
