Jacksonville, Florida: Beaches, Live Entertainment, and the Scenic St. Johns River

The St. Johns River—which meanders through the middle of Jacksonville, Florida—is one of the only rivers in America that flows north. Along its banks is The Jacksonville Landing, which has been attracting residents and visitors for more than 20 years with international eateries, live-music clubs, and more than 300 special events held every year. It’s worth walking across the bright-blue Main Street Bridge to Southbank to see Friendship Fountain, which puts on a dazzling light show at night. Next door to the fountain, at the Museum of Science & History, you’ll find several aquariums filled with Floridian fish.

Jacksonville sits right off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and its beaches are frequented by kiteboarders and surfers. More than 80,000 acres of parkland lie within the city limits—for a low-key hike or bike ride, head to one of the many state parks. Little Talbot Island State Park’s beaches are rife with sand dunes, and at Fort Clinch State Park, you can take a daily tour past Civil War reenactors or explore native wildlife on self-guided nature trails.

Great employees! We recently stayed here for 3 nights while my husband was working nearby. The hotel itself was in great location and had a very nice pool and hot tub. We had dinner at the beach bar/restaurant one evening - delicious, highly recommended! The main point of this review is to recognize a couple of employees. We left some hanging clothes in the closet at checkout and didn't realize until the next day. I called and left a message with housekeeping and promptly received a return call back from Jacqueline Pabon who told me she would email me instructions on how to have my items sent to me. For some reason my email was glitching and I didn't get the email, I left another message the next day and she tried again, I still didn't get it. Finally I left another message and Yaimiris Harrell called me back. She resent the email from a different account, but I got it that time. Yaimiris then replied back and forth via email several times answering questions I had (package size, etc...) that I needed to know for the FedEx form, then she personally drove the package to drop off at FedEx after work! I was later able to find the original emails that Jacqueline had sent as well, it was absolutely no fault of hers why they didn't go through at first!

No help at all... Had a room booked here with points but I didnt stay because the room door wouldn't secure. The other person with me walked straight in even with the deadbolt engaged from the inside. When I left maintenance was still working on the door but they are refusing to return my points because they say the door was fixed before I left the property which it was not. I have been calling since the Sunday after it happened but they refuse to return my calls nor whomever they transfer me to will answer their phone to address the situation or than saying it was fix before I even left which clearly it wasn't. I have since canceled the upcoming reservations I had at this property.

AWFUL! Do NOT visit this place! We stayed in a room on the second floor on Sun., Aug. 31 and had to leave early Mon. morning, Sept. 1 because of the terrible conditions! First. the bathroom was disgusting. The woodwork was chipped, the edge of the bathtub you step over to get into the shower was all marked up with dark spots, the silver circular part inside the tub has rust spots all around, there were rust spots all around the bathtub, there are six holes on the bottom of the wall above the back of the tub and the inside of the bathroom door was marked up with a long wide dark mark. (PHOTOS ATTACHED.) Second, the people in the room above us were noisy during nighttime hours making it hard to sleep. And third, the air conditining unit in the room is noisy and close to the bed. We could not sleep most of the night because it was so loud. But it was hot and we had no choice but to leave it on. We spent $200 due to it being a Labor Day holiday and thought it would be a great deal but it was not! This place I am sure is making a lot of money being it is on the beach. The owner of this place needs to take some of that money and make improvements to the facility. The staff should also remind its guest that there are people above and below them and that by a certain hour they should not make noise to avoid waking the other guests. This is a black eye regarding Hampton Inn's reputation (and HILTON since they own HAMPTON INN). This location should be closed for offering rooms in such terrible conditions! We wasted a lot of money for nothing staying at this place, will never visit again and I strongly advise not to stay at this location! --Chris
