San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

Underwhelmed loyal honors member This experience was not up to par with our (many) stays at other Hampton Inns around the country. We had to ask for blankets & sheets for the sofa bed even though they knew how many people were booked for the room. The tap in our bathroom sink was scalding hot no matter which direction the faucet was turned & my child burned his fingers. We had to call maintenance for that as well. The breakfast room was uncomfortably hot. Thermostat down there was set to cool to 70 but it was actually 83 degrees. The room with the fools had zero ventilation (seemed like a closet) and felt like a literal sauna. I was sweating just standing in line and felt so bad for the breakfast hosts working. Because it was so cramped, they had a difficult time keeping food stocked/replenished. The location is convenient to public transit, but I don’t think I’d stay here again.

Located in a sea of homelessness and drug addiction I recently stayed at this hotel, and I regret my decision. Located in a sea of homelessness and drug addiction, this place felt extremely unsafe. The area was dangerous, with rampant intravenous drug use and human feces right outside the door. The hotel staff was among the surliest front desk staff I've encountered in a while and they don't answer their telephone. The breakfast area had to be 90 degrees F. The overall experience was disappointing and certainly not up to the standards expected from a Hampton Inn. I would not recommend staying here and certainly won't be returning.

Unsafe area — stay somewhere else This is the worst Hampton Inn we have ever stayed in. The area is very unsafe with urine and human poo on the sidewalk outside the hotel from all the people sleeping on the streets. Some of the reception team were very helpful, the ones when we checked in were unhelpful to the point of rudeness. We had booked the wrong room type- our mistake but they told us that we had booked through a 3rd party like booking.com. We are Hilton honours members and had booked through the app. So we asked if the sofa bed could be made up in our room so that everyone in the family had a bed and they told us that housekeeping was too busy!!! My recommendation, pay the extra and choose a hotel in a better area of San Francisco.

Don’t do it unless you like feeling unsafe Horrible experience. We are Hilton members and chose this hotel because it had valet parking and because that was important due to the crime in SF. When we arrived at 10 pm 4/21 we had no idea where to park. Homeless, gangs everywhere around. I called the front desk to ask where to park. The desk attendant was incredibly rude. I didn’t understand much of what she said so my husband called back. She was very snippy and unwelcoming. She said to park our car behind another one and lock the doors. We checked in and she seemed annoyed we had concerns about our vehicle. Picture attached is behind our room. The rooms are small but decent. Behind our room was loud homeless activities. Hotel did have decent security needing a key card for the elevators etc which was good and deadbolts on the doors. Breakfast was a good selection. However, we will NEVER stay there again.

Not bad if you don't mind dealing with the homeless. The hotel was older but nicely updated .however it is located in a somewhat sketchy part of the city. But staff was very helpful. Beds were not great and sheets didn't fit well so kept coming off. Breakfast was decent. Exercise room full of outdated equipment but did the job. 3.5 out of 5 because of the staff.
