Midtown East Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal (one of the world’s most-visited tourist attractions). Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Really poor customer service When I got into Manhattan from and my gps kept running me around in circles. I called the hotel and after several attempts finally someone answered. I told her I was lost and needed help getting there. She abruptly told me to just put the hotel address in to my gps. I told her there were problems with doing that and can she tell me what’s around her. Again she abruptly told me to put the address into gps and then hung up. I called back and she kept hanging up on me. Finally, someone else answered and she was able to help me get the hotel. When I got there the first person I was dealing was working at the front desk and I told her I found it really rude that she would take the time to help me out and then she said I was yelling at her, I responded by telling her I wasn’t yelling at her that I was frustrated and upset because I couldn’t find the location of the hotel. I had a lot of bags and my dog with me and it was very late. She kept being really surly with me while I was checking in. When I finally got to the room I tried to turn on the air condition and the control panel was broken. So I called to the front desk and got the same person and she was very put out by request to get the panel fixed and said there was nothing she could do. After that last interaction I was fed up and called Hilton Honors and they were able to switch hotels for me. It really shouldn’t ever have to get like this .

Not Welcoming This is a basic hotel with outdated furniture. The breakfast offered each morning was less than minimal with very few options. IE: cheese omelet, toast, make your own waffle or cereal. Front desk staff was more interested in their phone or talking in the back room than helping customers. Too many hotel options in Manhattan to ever go back here. Housekeeping was good. Lastly there is construction going on across the street and they never noted that.

Girls Trip First of all this property is in a fantastic location, with Grand Central only steps away. We were visiting to see the US Open and it was an easy trip from this location. The front desk, cleaning, and cafe staff were friendly and helpful. Asia, at the front desk was lovely. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was just as it always is, an added benefit. The only slightly negative thing I would say is that the rooms are small, but that is to be expected in NYC. Thanks for a great stay.
