Provincetown, Massachusetts: Thriving Arts Scene and Gay-Friendly Community on the Tip of Cape Cod

Provincetown—or “P-town” as it’s often known—sits at the northernmost tip of Cape Cod. Before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, they spent five weeks in what is now Provincetown Harbor. There they signed the Mayflower Compact and first encountered Native Americans. The 252-foot-tall Pilgrim Monument memorializes this landing, and on a clear day you can see all the way to Boston from the top of its tower.

In the 20th century, Provincetown attracted a slew of artists, including painter Charles Hawthorne; he helped found the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in 1914. You can view works from past and present members of the town’s still-thriving creative community in the art galleries along Commercial Street, which rival some of Boston’s best.

Renovating Harbor Hotel / Beautiful!! Great Hotel directly on the water. I love the quiet season in Provincetown. I was in room 301 in November which is renovated with a beautiful bathroom with a walk in shower. Maurice at the Front Desk was absolutely wonderful. Kind, accommodating and great to talk with. I’ve been here a few times in the last 45 days for pleasure and business. Linchrist Hospitality has done a great job with the Harbor Hotel and continues to do so. Only request. Reopen the interior restaurant and bar even limited seasonally.

Great View of Bay from the Room! This great experience started with Maurice checking us in - he is so friendly and accommodating! Room facing the Bay was perfect. Second floor room provided a great view. Matress was comfortable and pillows were great - NOT TOO FIRM! Good sized frig was a plus. Extremely affordable!

Great stay by the bay! The room was clean and comfortable. Office staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great, close enough to walk to town. They also have a golf cart shuttle or a town shuttle for $2. We had a view of the bay. The sunrise was amazing. The only negative was the bright light outside the window that wasn’t blocked out by the shade. Also it really is a motel not a hotel but that didn’t detract from our experience.
