Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Loved the place and the room. Although I asked for non smoking. It smelled like cigarettes. But the room was nice.

Worst customer service ever We had to call down to the front desk 3 times our first night and they sent security up twice bc of loud drunk people keeping us up all night and banging on the dividing door. They then refused to let us speak to a manager or credit us anything for the entire night sleep we lost and treated us like we were the problem.

Bad WiFi, Expensive, Not Family Friendly Came here for karate tournament with wife and two kids. Rooms are clean and nice, but only one chair in a double queen room when there was clearly space for a few more seats. Free WiFi is limited to two devices per room and is slower than if I stayed on cell. Any extra device was $13.95/day, not worth it. Tournament starts at 9am each morning but the hotels breakfast restaurant doesn’t open till 8am and they are a slow start and understaffed. Kids and wife had to leave before food to make it to the tournament on time while I waited for food. We got there at 8am. Food is about 30-40% more than outside the hotel. It is just expensive and they nickel and dime you for everything. The pool wasn’t even open on Saturday afternoon for kids, it was an adult only event. Not cool when you have several hundred kids wrapping up a karate tournament. Overall a not recommend for a family.
