Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Loved the place and the room. Although I asked for non smoking. It smelled like cigarettes. But the room was nice.

Amazing service I had an excellent experience at Harrah’s Atlantic City thanks to Bianca at the front counter. She went above and beyond to accommodate me, and her customer service was outstanding from start to finish. Bianca was friendly, professional, and made sure everything I needed was taken care of. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares about the guests, and she absolutely made my stay better. Harrah’s is lucky to have her—thank you, Bianca!

Bed Bugs, Cleaniness Problems, Poor Customer Service in Harrah's My room in Laguna Tower was disgusting. Harrah's front desk representative claimed the room was recently renovated but that was a lie. Room was dark and appeared to not have cleaned by housekeeping in months. Carpets and furniture was both stained and sticky. Furniture was either damaged or worn well beyond normal use. Bathroom sink water was brown every time you turned it on. White bed sheets had brown stains and holes in them. Found multiple bed bugs the following morning. Front desk made no effort to resolve the problem. They did not even act surprised or concerns when I showed them photos of the bugs. They refused to change my room and still charged me for the one night. The whole facility appeared to have a cleanliness problem.

Long-time patrons won’t be back._ Harrah’s has been my favorite casino/hotel in A.C. for as long as I can remember, so much so that I insisted we change up from the resorts within walking distance of the convention center for our annual conference. Last year, all went well, but this year was such a disappointment that I will never be back. We booked our room in advance, specifying a king bed, high floor, non-smoking, city-view. The room they gave us was a 2 queen room on the 6th floor that reeked of cigarettes. And it was dirty! We asked for another room and were given a 10th floor, 2 queen room. Fortunately, this one didn’t smell like smoke. It still looked like it needed an in-depth cleaning, but it was ok. That’s where “ok” stopped, though. We stayed for 3 nights and received no housekeeping whatsoever. A colleague staying in a different room also received no housekeeping. The floors in the halls and vestibules were left filthy, obvious spills left for days, signs of what looked like vomit in multiple spots down the walkway. As if all of that wasn’t bad enough, around noon on the second day we were walking through the casino and the entire place had the sickeningly sweet smell of rotting trash, as if the floors in the common areas had been cleaned with dirty water that smelled that way. I’m beyond disappointed that this establishment has fallen so far. Clearly, something is very wrong here, and we won’t be back.
