Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Harrah's Check In _ Check in was crazy long. We did self check in online, but the kiosks didn't work once we got there and then there over an hour wait because of that. When the issue was explained to me (self check in is before 3), it made no sense since we had done it before 3.

Extremely Unresponsive and Frustrating My room was not serviced by housekeeping today. I am going on 45 minutes trying to get someone from housekeeping to answer the phone. I have called the front desk 4 times with no success. How can you run a hotel and not be able to do something as simple as get someone from housekeeping to pick up the phone. I guess It is a bring your own towels resort.

Room Not Ready Until 11:40PM! Tried to check at 5pm. Room not ready until 11:40PM. Outrageously bad! How can a hotel get away with this. No apologies were provided. No explanation was given. The customer is just expected to put up with this type of nonsense and bad service. How does the company stay in business when it treats customers this way?
