Stellar staff elevate a good hotel Stayed here for 3 nights in a king bed room. All positive with two challenges/recommendations at the bottom. The hotel personnel — particularly Brendan on my first couple of days, the housekeeping staff, and waitress and chef at the Tavern — were incredibly professional, warm but efficient, and made the experience excellent. I’d also recommend this location which is a few blocks south of where a lot of highly reviewed hotels are located. The Heathman’s location feels a little less dodgy for pedestrians.
I was able to get into my room a bit early, have a (seriously) broken and sad looking Roman curtain in my room fixed quickly, and deal with checked luggage easily making my arrival very seamless. Food from the Tavern is good — a some dishes better than others and surprisingly un accompanied (an entree only arrives as a solo entree; no sides or bread or crackers, you get the picture) for room service. The one time I ate in the restaurant itself, the meal was prepared incredibly well - good texture, flavor, and surprisingly fresh. Based on previous reviews, I parked in the secured parking structure directly across the street. I spent approximately $16/day and didn’t have to wait for valet. (Valet is $55/day with in-and-out service if that’s preferred for your situation). Amenities — linens, bed, pillows , shower water pressure, soaps, lotions - were all good. Coffee provided for the press is weak and ground too small for a French press; just bring or purchase your own and you’ll be set. The biggest drawbacks of the hotel are design flaws. My room had the awkwardest bathroom. Maybe to accommodate some kind of structural beam, but the door only opened to 90 degrees, requiring you to wedge yourself in between the toilet and shower door to close the door to reach the sink. It’s not designed for any accessibility (I mean for many human beings who aren’t able to maneuver around the door; not just humans who require formal accessibility options). My last thought and a strong recommendation to the management at the hotel is that they provide servicing carts for housekeeping that are less long and cumbersome. Every housekeeping personnel I encountered was incredibly friendly, discreet, and made absolutely no complaint. But I watched one of them use all of their considerable strength to rock a long cart around an impossible and narrow corner on my hall. The turning radius literally didn’t work for that cart’s length. Beyond being stressful for the staff person, you feel pretty bad witnessing someone work so hard for something so easily solved. I’d stay here again and will recommend to others.

Lovely experience My husband and I had a very comfortable stay at the Heathman hotel! The hotel is beautiful, very clean, and the people who work at the hotel are very welcoming, kind and I really felt like a valued guest. I loved the library and coffee in the morning. The location is excellent, and it was easy to get to other parts of Portland from the hotel.

Stay Away The worse customer service ever! Housekeeping was terrible! Valet was a nightmare - no location to safely drop car and valet no where to be found. Had to circle block on numerous occasions! Horrible experience!
