Los Angeles, CA: The City Where Dreams Forge Skylines

Los Angeles stands as a global symbol of aspiration, reinvention, and cultural fusion. With its sprawling cityscape nestled between the Pacific coast and sun-baked mountains, L.A. has long served as a magnet for creatives, innovators, and visionaries. From the golden age of Hollywood to the tech startups of Silicon Beach, the city pulses with a relentless energy that bridges art, commerce, and cutting-edge progress. Its legacy is etched not only in iconic landmarks like the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory but also in the richly diverse neighborhoods that shape its character—each with a distinct voice contributing to the city’s vibrant chorus.

But Los Angeles is more than its cinematic mystique; it is a living chronicle of American ambition. Once a quiet pueblo in the 18th century, it has evolved into the second-largest metropolis in the United States, bearing witness to waves of migration, cultural revolutions, and architectural transformation. The city’s heritage is preserved in sites like El Pueblo de Los Ángeles and the Bradbury Building, while its future is sculpted in institutions like the Getty Center and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. With every freeway, mural, and skyline silhouette, L.A. continues to redefine what it means to chase—and build—the American dream.

Shuttle Would not stay here again based on shuttle service..Hotel was great..no issues at the hotel

Needs improvement (shuttle particularly is their weak spot) I don't usually write a review right after I check in but I want to be sure everything is fresh in my memory. At the top, I do want to say that everyone at the front desk was friendly and that the room looks like it's been remodeled and was clean. But . . . After a couple of long flights from Ireland to Philadelphia to Los Angeles and not making my next flight to Honolulu, I went on the Hilton app and chose this location because of its 4.5 rating - all of the other Hilton properties around LAX are rated lower. I stepped outside, found the hotel shuttle pickup (note that the hotel website says second floor Departures for pickup but the hotel automated phone shuttle info says right outside baggage claim, which is lower level, so they need to fix that). My email confirmation of my booking was 7:38 so I was outside at the hotel shuttle pickup spot by no later than 7:45. About 8:05, I decided to call the hotel but nobody picked up (that was when I listened to the automated shuttle info). I called again at 8:17 and spoke with Jose who said there were three shuttles entering LAX at that moment - so perhaps they just were not spaced well - all coming and going at the same time. He said he would call them to tell them I was outside the terminal. 13 minutes later I called again and spoke with a woman at the front desk (I forget her name) who told me she could only tell me what Jose told me. At that point, the 5th Westin shuttle while I was waiting pulled up (in fact, I saw every hotel shuttle at least 3 times, some many more) and I took that shuttle and walked across the street to the Hilton Garden Inn. There was nobody else checking in but there were two phone calls at the front desk as I was waiting to check in asking where the shuttle was and a couple of employees looking at the shuttle map where the shuttles did not appear to be moving. So I checked in. I was told that I receive a $10 credit and since I was going to leave before breakfast started, I asked if I could use it for a glass of wine at their bar. She said of course. Oh, by the way, breakfast is $24, which is absolutely ridiculous. I walked over to the bar and the bartender told me he has no wine. Wow - that's a first, a bar with no wine. So went to my room where my card did not work. Came back downstairs at which point one shuttle had finally arrived and then another one pulled up. The front desk said the shuttle is a third-party service, so the hotel doesn't have a lot of control. The people in the first shuttle said they had been waiting for over 30 minutes and I recognized people from the second shuttle that pulled up right after from my wait at the shuttle stop. Okay, so second door key worked but bedside lights on both sides of the bed are not working (later I found a wall switch which provides power to all four bedside lights). Otherwise, room is fine though I woke up around midnight to a room full of cigarette smoke - so I assume someone was smoking in a nearby room. Morning shuttle went out full leaving about 6 people behind who were told there would be another shuttle in 15 minutes. Since I was on the first shuttle, I can’t confirm if another shuttle showed up at that time. I think on future LAX stays, I'll stick with the Embassy Suites.

Positive and negative We stayed for one night after arriving late to LAX. The shuttle situation at LAX is not convenient so we just took an Uber. The location is very good, close to the airport and rental car center. We had received an upgraded room, which we appreciate. It was, however, a little odd. It was a small suite. The bedroom did not have enough space for 2 nightstands and the door had glass window panes, eliminating any privacy. It was clean and well maintained. We have food credit through Hhonors benefits but they are far below the cost of breakfast, which was $24 in the restaurant. This is high for a HGI breakfast. The snack bar prices were also quite high......$8 for a bottle of soda. Check out was easy and I walked to the rental car center to get our car for the next day.
