Bloomington, Minnesota: Gargantuan Mall and Family Fun

Located right next to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and crisscrossed by two major highways, Bloomington is fairly easy to get to. It’s a good thing, too, because the suburb’s main attraction, the largest mall in the country, draws 40 million visitors each year. When it first opened in 1992, the massive shopping center marked a new trend in retail, not just for its size—you can fit seven Yankee Stadiums inside it—but for the way it combined shopping and entertainment. In addition to more than 500 shops, the mall has half a dozen attractions including an aquarium and a comedy club. Kids will love Nickelodeon Universe, an enclosed theme park with roller coasters and friendly mascots such as SpongeBob SquarePants.

If you’re looking to learn a little something, visit Historic Fort Snelling—a restored military fort that looks just the way it did in the early 1800s, when it was the farthest outpost of the US government. Located inside a sprawling state park, the fort hosts craft demonstrations, military drills, and cooking exhibitions performed by costumed characters. The museums and galleries of Minneapolis, meanwhile, are less than 20 minutes away by car.

Worst hotel in Minnesota This hotel was an unbelievable dump. I can’t believe Hilton puts their name on this. Other than the lobby, the hotel is completely outdated and unkept and dirty. The hallways are seedy, scuffed up and filthy like a rundown motel. The staff is exceptionally unpleasant and unprofessional, particularly Fadumo and Rubi. Those are two of the worst customer service employees I’ve ever met. Nasty, rude, unhelpful, and more than anything unprofessional. If you’re unable to handle customers, I hope they find a different line of work. Beyond the nasty condition of the hotel, the amenities are busted, old and frankly kind of nasty. One of the biggest issues, when I checked in the first floor, exit doors were bolted shut, which would be a horrible tragedy if there were a fire. I alerted the front desk immediately, and they said they’d repair it, yet hours and hours later they still haven’t even looked, which tells you how they feel about safety and their own customers. Truly, a dismal and awful hotel do not stay here. Hilton should be ashamed of this property And the people who work there. I still can’t believe Hilton puts their name on this dump

Buyer Beware - Excess Upcharges, Dated and Disappointing As a diamond member frequenting Hilton locations throughout the United States, I’ve always been greeted with a smile and appreciation for my business. Not at the Hilton Garden Inn Mall of America... This location nickels and dimes their guests for everything. We requested to check in an hour and a half early. Despite our room being ready, we were told we would incur a $25 charge. Eventually the hotel agreed to waive the charge and allow us to check in 1 hour early. Rooms are worn and dated. The elevators are slow and loud. The air conditioning rattled all night; keeping us awake. The icing on the cake was my morning encounter. Hilton Garden Inn doesn’t have a lot of open seating in the lobby (unless you are paying for breakfast). Needed to take a quick call so I ducked into an open conference room in the lobby area at 7am. The conference room was not in use. The front desk attendant quickly came by to ask if I had specifically reserved the space. I said no, I just needed a few minutes for a call. I was informed the charge would be $150 to use the space. This is NOT how you treat longstanding customers. With so many other lovely options available in the area, please do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Thieves They leave $2 bottles of water in your room and still charge you for them when you leave even if you don’t drink them. They say there’s no proof you didn’t use them. So if you’re forced to stay in this dump, I’d recommend taking them to the front desk upon arrival and making them write a note in your account that you turned them in and didn’t use them.
