Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

Quick trip to the city There are many things you know you can count on either Hilton Hotels. This hotel delivered! The manager Joe Panatella was there and came to our assistance when we needed help. He was great. He made sure we were taken care of and all aspects of our stay was the best. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant were all wonderful. The rooms were your typical NYC size rooms. The TV, and the WiFi were good. When I return to this part of the city, I’m coming here. Thank you Joe and your entire team_

Great receptionist, so-so room We stayed at the HGI Central for a recent business trip, for which my family joined me. The receptionist Michelle could not have been more kind, thorough, professional, or caring of my family and me! She was fantastic. Unfortunately, the room wasn’t quite as wonderful as Michelle. We stayed in a 2 queen room, and also used a pack n play for our 5 month old (provided by the hotel - in great shape but came with a hotel sheet instead of an appropriately sized crib sheet - so dangerous for babies to have all that extra fabric!). We barely had any room to move around. There was maybe 15” clearance into the room between the corner of the bed and the wall. We banged our shins on it repeatedly. The beds were ok, the pillows were comfy. The bathroom had hardly any counter space, and the water pressure was meh. Location couldn’t be more convenient though, and Michelle put us up in a high-floor room where we got a view of the Times Square Ball, which was fun. But overall, it was all just ok.

Outstanding Staff I am a hotel “snob” so to speak. I like clean rooms, friendly staff with amenities based on the type of hotel I select. Having stayed at this hotel before we knew it would be centrally located to so many places. We arrived late afternoon on a rainy Saturday afternoon mid January and we were greeted very nicely. I sat on the lobby bench while my husband and adult daughter got checked into their rooms. I made a cup of tea and the gentleman at the small desk asked if I needed any assistance which was very nice. I explained my family was checking in and I was stepping out of the way. We settled into our respective rooms and then quickly headed out to make our dinner reservation. I had noticed a smell when I entered our room but didn’t give it too much thought. Just figured they had a spill earlier and it would clear up. When we returned late night I noticed it was still lingering but was too tired to ask for assistance. Next morning we had to head out early and didn’t give the smell any other thought until we returned around 7pm. We stopped at front desk and asked if someone from hotel would meet us at room explaining we had been out all day. We wanted them to see if they could smell it also. Not only did we have a maintenance engineer but also the manager on duty. The manager and engineer smelled it immediately and could not pinpoint what it was. They offered to move us which we did to the next floor up. Joe the manager on duty went down to get our keys and told us to take our time. We got everything moved and he was so kind and gracious, as well as, apologetic. He wanted to do something for us for our trouble. I don’t eat sweets and he gave us each a complimentary item from their snack shop. What stands out was his sincere demeanor. He wasn’t annoyed, he wasn’t agitated or insincere at all. Talking to him was like talking to a genuine and kind human. Secondly the front desk staff were also incredibly nice. Sadly I did not get their names but they were also genuine. The hotel is kept up and maintained well. Sure there are always issues with most hotels, especially ones in NYC. we have stayed at 5 star hotels all over the US and there is always an issue. What stands out is the sincerity and genuine kindness of the staff. Outstanding and remarkable! Joe Panapella is a keeper and the front desk staff!
