Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

Top tier service Mustafa at the front desk went above and beyond to assist me with a cancelled booking. I showed up with a dead phone, frazzled and slightly stressed. Mustafa was a professional and helped calm me down as well as move forward with getting me a place to stay for the evening.

SUPER conveniently placed & THANK YOU JOE! We booked our visit pretty last minute for our honeymoon (busy with the wedding!) and since we know NYC well, we found all the hotels in the area to be VERY overpriced given end of July is high season. We found the best deal at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square Central! I called to let the hotel know we were on our honeymoon even though I wasn’t sure whether hotels do anything for that anymore? I spoke with Manager Joe Panerella, and he was fantastic! We spoke for about 20 minutes. Not only did he upgrade our room to a corner room with a Times Square view, high up which was cool and made it a bit quieter too, but he seemed genuinely excited for us and happy to chat! He made a few recommendations of his favourite restaurants, explaining how he was a local and “knows his food”. When we arrived, we met Joe and he was awesome! The most genuine & warm person I’ve ever interacted with at a hotel. He sent up some deserts to our room on night 1, and every time we crossed him we stopped to chat for 10-15 minutes. We got to know him, chatted about our lives and families and really appreciated how much he cared! If you want to be well taken care of, visit this hotel and ask to meet Joe! As far as the hotel goes, the room was small for sure, but that’s NYC and especially Times Square, you’re not paying for size but for convenience! The room was clean, the shower was a full glass shower. It takes a while to heat up (I’ve seen in other reviews there’s no hot water, and was afraid, but it’s not true it just takes a minute to heat up!) The TV was large, there’s a fridge & microwave! The bed was comfortable, the AC keeps up which is necessary when you’re so hot in the July NYC heat. As I said, it was well placed! Right outside the hotel is Bryant Park. We went for our daily morning walk down 7th to get Liberty Bagels - our favourite bacon/egg/cheese on jalapeño everything bagel YUM! - and brought it to Bryant Park to enjoy breakfast with a view! We went to four Yankee games and the subway for Yankee Stadium was the Bryant Park subway, so it was VERY close & convenient for us! We also used that subway for many other destinations. That alone made the placement of the hotel so convenient! There is also a Joe’s Pizzq around the corner. It comes highly recommended and we had it almost every night after getting in from our night out. There’s also a CVS on the corner of the block, perfect for getting our daily water & Gatorade fuel up to deal with the NYC heat. And you’re a quick walk two blocks over (past Bryant Park) to 5th avenue shopping& a 2 min walk and you’re in Times Square which is great for any tourist but especially if you’re going to a Broadway show as we did! Overall, we had a great time and found the hotel super well priced, well placed and the staff super helpful! THANK YOU JOE!
