Bloomington, Minnesota: Gargantuan Mall and Family Fun

Located right next to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and crisscrossed by two major highways, Bloomington is fairly easy to get to. It’s a good thing, too, because the suburb’s main attraction, the largest mall in the country, draws 40 million visitors each year. When it first opened in 1992, the massive shopping center marked a new trend in retail, not just for its size—you can fit seven Yankee Stadiums inside it—but for the way it combined shopping and entertainment. In addition to more than 500 shops, the mall has half a dozen attractions including an aquarium and a comedy club. Kids will love Nickelodeon Universe, an enclosed theme park with roller coasters and friendly mascots such as SpongeBob SquarePants.

If you’re looking to learn a little something, visit Historic Fort Snelling—a restored military fort that looks just the way it did in the early 1800s, when it was the farthest outpost of the US government. Located inside a sprawling state park, the fort hosts craft demonstrations, military drills, and cooking exhibitions performed by costumed characters. The museums and galleries of Minneapolis, meanwhile, are less than 20 minutes away by car.

Ruined by Hilton eStandby My office is less than a mile from this Hilton. We recommend it to visitors, have used it for business meals, and even had company events there. In general the experience has been good. First time I actually stayed at this hotel - this time for 4 nights. (I recently moved out of state) Hilton sent me an "eStandby" offer for an Executive Level King room for an extra $13 a night. If you look at the rates for the hotel, the Executive Level King rooms include the executive lounge. I requested this upgrade. The upgrade is a pure scam. All you get is a room on the 11th floor, no lounge access. There is nothing special about the 11th floor otherwise. I could care less about the extra $52 plus tax I spent on a $1000 tab, it's the dishonesty of this hotel to nickel and dime you for nothing. It ruins the experience since they are essentially selling you nothing and calling it a deal. Clouded the entire stay. Other than that, the Sunday check-in staff didn't even tell me about the upgrade I was charged for. I figured that out Monday talking to another check-in person. My TV was broke when I arrived (very dim) and someone came to fix it. That stopped working and I gave up on the TV. My dresser had a broken refrigerator door and a drawer that kept opening on its own. The housekeeping staff was awesome. Friendly and did a great job. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome.

Good Hotel Had a pleasant experience. The room was very clean, which I appreciated. However, I did have some trouble with the air conditioning unit; it made a loud clicking noise that disrupted my sleep for two nights. On a positive note, I was thrilled to see that the lounge has reopened for Diamond members. It had been a long time since I enjoyed that amenity since COVID, and it was a welcome addition to my stay. However, I found the food and snacks could be improved in terms of quality. Despite the AC issue and the food quality, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the experience enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice stay with excellent service.

Just close the Executive Lounge - what a joke! Wow, just wow. I got an exec level room which was the size of a super small Hampton Inn room. It was clean. But very small. The executive lounge was a complete joke. If the hotel does not want to put forth the effort to stock it, just take it off of the amenities list. And then those of us who enjoy those lounges would not stay there. I do not ask for much. Just some water and a bag of chips or a simple cookie. But this was just plain sad. When the hotel responds to this post with excuses, it is just that, all excuses that do not work. I'd rather stay at the Embassy Suites down the road. But I picked here because of the Exec Lounge. Employees were okay. For Minnesota, I would think they would be nicer. The shuttle is scheduled, so if I wanted a pick up, I had to wait two hours. So I just ubered. Again, I don't want to hear excuses. Do not say you have an airport shuttle if someone has to wait two hours for a pick up at a very normal time of day.
