Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Quaint Villages, Protected Beaches, and Miles of Shoreline

In the late 19th century, Cape Cod began to blossom into a summer vacation destination as visitors swapped crowded coastal cities for the sandy shores of eastern Massachusetts. Today, the arm-shaped peninsula encompasses a string of idyllic fishing villages, rolling dunes, and 300 miles of sandy shoreline—and it’s still the place where many East Coasters choose to spend their leisurely summer days. Popular attractions include fresh-seafood restaurants, quaint stores, and bicycle trails, such as the 11-mile Shining Sea Bikeway that wends from North Falmouth to Woods Hole.

But there’s also plenty to do in winter, when the crowds are a lot smaller. On the uppermost tip of the Cape, the free-spirited art colony of Provincetown attracts visitors year-round. This is one of the best places to head for a vibrant nightlife scene—there are cabarets, bars, and lounges aplenty. Pop into the Provincetown Art Association and Museum to check out local artwork, both historical and contemporary. Farther south, the Woods Hole Science Aquarium houses 140 marine animals native to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic region. You might even see marine biologists feeding the seals in the aquarium’s outdoor enclosure.

Great room A quick overnight to Falmouth brought me back to this Holiday inn. Stayed before and the service is always a reason to come back. Room was large and clean. Restaurant that is on-site served an absolutely delicious burger. I’ll be back.

Gross I didn't want to believe the poor reviews written but I can confirm they are true. Hallway smelled of either strong deodorizer or insecticide not sure which. Noticed stain on bedspread as soon as I walked in. Front desk got on phone right away and called housekeeping. Housekeeper came and looked and said I just changed bed and comforter is clean but then said "Sometimes the stains don't come out when washed." I am not blaming housekeeper, the Holiday Inn should spring for new comforters. I paid alot of $ for room and wasn't sure about getting any of it back so I stayed. I did go out and buy sheets and blankets to go over the existing ones. There are gross stains on the lobby cushions. I found bug carcasses around hallway windows. I didn't dare put anything on the floor because I was afraid of bugs. There maybe clean rooms in this hotel but I most certainly did not stay in one!!! I was disgusted and ripped off. Holiday Inn-Please don't respond to this review.

Nice Stay. Great location. Was here for a week on business. Company paid so I can’t comment on price but I think it was around $140/night. This was week before Memorial Day weekend. The room was clean and quiet. Beds were comfy and room very spacious. Mini fridge in room. I was on second floor but the hotel is built on a hill so that feels like ground level. A co-worker was on the first floor and she said it felt a little like being in basement. They do have a restaurant on location but I didn’t try it out. Room also came with breakfast vouchers but again I didn’t try it. The location is great. Lots of stores and restaurants close by. The beach is maybe 5 minutes away and the parking lot for the shuttle that takes you to the ferry in Woods Hole is also a 5 minute drive. Nice indoor pool and fitness room as well. Enjoyed my stay a lot.
