Waikiki, Honolulu: White-Sand Beaches, World-Class Surfing, and Luxury Entertainment

When they're not surfing or sunbathing on Waikiki's beach, most travelers explore the area's busy avenues lined with everything from upscale boutiques and nightclubs to craft booths and street performers. Other attractions include the Honolulu Zoo, which houses exotic and endangered species such as sumatran tigers and white-handed gibbons, and the Waikiki Aquarium, where more than 3,500 creatures of the Pacific glide throughout glassed-in galleries.

Also nearby is one of Hawaii's most recognizable natural landmarks, Diamond Head State Monument—a 300,000-year-old saucer formed by a single eruption. Hikers can walk along a trail where molten lava once smoldered to ascend to the crater’s 560-foot-tall lip.

Great hotel! The location was perfect and we enjoyed the included breakfast. The hotel and rooms are very nice, although the room was a little snug. It didn’t bother us since we weren’t in the room too much! I would recommend staying here!

Good for Waikiki For the area it's good, not to close to the very busy Waikiki beach, but close enough. It is a forty-five minute walk, but a nice walk through the shops and beautiful area. Make sure to get a beach view and if you are renting a car know it is fifty dollars a night. Breakfast was fine, pretty much like most, but make sure to be there when opened. There information desk was very helpful, so make sure to stop there.

Great views We stayed in a corner suite and loved most aspects of the stay. The elevators to the upper floors can take a long time. We also found the free breakfast to start too late when doing tours of the island. When we did have breakfast, it was just fine for a free meal. The housekeeping is great and all the staff were friendly. Location is close to most needed things. Definitely upgrade to an ocean view suite.

Mid I stayed in this Holiday Inn because other options weren’t available. The good: 1) If you book an ocean view room and get one of the better rooms, I think this is one of the only things about this hotel that could be described as value for money. It’s quite a remarkable view for the price compared to other hotels in Waikiki. 2) One reception staff member took charge of my pretty poor check-in experience with another staff member, and kind of saved the moment. She was really great at her job. The not very good: 1) All of Waikiki is expensive, and this hotel is no exception, but the rooms are very small for the price. 2) No hangers in the “closet”, which is more of an open niche in the wall with a metal bar. No closet door. 3) The worst breakfast that I have had at any IHG brand hotel. Very few options to choose from, no protein other than bacon and eggs, if you are into that, and the eating environment is more like a crowded canteen. 4) Check in was initially quite bad. This was in part due to the fact that the hotel was at full capacity, so there was little chance for checking in before 3:00pm. Having said that, the attitude during my first reception desk encounter was dismissive and robotic. Another reception staff member had to step in to do the totally normal and basic customer service work for her colleague who couldn’t be bothered to listen or do the bare minimum. 5) Concierge and information staff are pleasant, but some of the information that I received was inaccurate and/or incomplete. I love the IHG brand, and normally rate 5 stars with the occasional 4 stars, but I would not go back to this property.
