Fort Myers, Florida: Sun-Soaked Beaches and Historic Homes

Though the coast is Fort Myers’s main draw, there’s plenty to do further inland, too. For one, the city pays tribute to its famous winter visitors at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. You can tour the inventors’ winter homes and see early automobiles, exotic flowers, and one of the country’s biggest banyan trees. The Southwest Florida Museum of History sheds light on the native tribes, Spanish explorers, and early American settlers who shaped the region; meanwhile, kids can touch sea creatures or do a mock dinosaur dig with the hands-on science exhibits at the Imaginarium.

Rows of palm trees flank the pier near the downtown River District and art galleries are scattered throughout the area, housed in century-old buildings and empty seashells. Try some fresh-caught seafood at one of the restaurants here, or check out one of the boutiques stocked with apparel and knickknacks.

OK at Best People at front desk were courteous. Location wasn't bad, wouldn't call it sketchy as one other stated. Dunkin Donuts right next door if you need it. Voucher for breakfast, however, wasn't great, rate the food poor. Pool was decent. Downtown was close by for some good restaurants. Fords Garage had great burgers. Coal Fired Pizza place was good to. Needed to get clean towels every day on your own and finally cleaned the room after 3 days.

Sketchy area This place is located on the edge of an industrial area and some pretty shady folks walking around, 2 tried to follow us on our walk back from dinner. Staff said to park in front to avoid car break in.....Best if you plan on driving anywhere, not walking. Breakfast is a credit to attached restaurant, only $20 per room even though we paid extra for a 3rd person. The quality was below Dennys. Room and staff were fine, but if you don't know the area, head's up, not the safest part of town.

Value for money and a great team We visited Fort Myers for a wedding in downtown (first timers in America from Wales, UK) and we stayed for 4 nights. The location is ideal for the price very close to everything but very reasonable prices. The hotel is a little tired but it is clean and has a lovely pool, breakfast was also super good value at 9.95 dollars, for a hot buffet. What made the hotel a great choice for us was the lovely welcoming and helpful team... I only wish I could remember everyone's name! The lovely gentleman who we first met on arrival and saw most days (Scottish/American) was super helpful and knowledgeable of the area, and his colleague (night porter) was great too, a young man (I think Duty Manager for the first 2 days) was super efficient, friendly and gave us advice on how to get around the local area, the lady with the lovely smile, glasses and brown/dark red shoulder length hair on reception was so welcoming and Debbie from breakfast really was fantastic an asset to the team, so many other staff too made our stay, who all gave a welcoming smile and hello. Other reviews say unsavory characters around the hotel etc at night, I personally wouldn't wander anywhere at night in a foreign country/town to my home, yes there were some vulnerable people on the streets at night (like most of the world), you could be in the 'poshest hotel in the world' and still be at risk, I certainly didn't feel unsafe in the hotel. This is a good value, friendly hotel. Thanks again everyone. Until next time x
