Downtown Minneapolis: Thriving Performing-Arts Scene near Idyllic Lakes

Downtown Minneapolis is more than just the geographic epicenter of the city—it’s the cultural heart too. Sports venues home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins neighbor the lively nightclubs of the Warehouse District and the neon-lit marquees of the Hennepin Theater District. In recent years, the city’s arts scene has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason: Minneapolis has more live theater shows per capita than any other US city except New York. Additionally, dozens of eclectic galleries complement the wide-ranging exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which showcases everything from Japanese woodcut prints to turn-of-the-century European advertisements.

To navigate downtown with ease, step into the Skyway, the city’s ingenious solution to harsh Minnesota winters. The Skyway is a network of indoor, aboveground tunnels connecting a slew of buildings downtown. A popular stop along the way is Nicollet Mall, a shopping thoroughfare where cars are not allowed. This is where you’ll find the iconic statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her 10-gallon Stetson into the air.

Buyer Beware! BEWARE OF BOGAS CHARGES! I booked and paid for my trip in March through Orbitz. I was told that a credit card must remain on file upon check in. The hotel charged me $1527.18 for a trip that I already paid for. I contacted the hotel to get this charge reversed, but it still had not happened. The charge goes from pending to not even showing on my account. I am now fighting the credit card company, Orbitz and the hotel. Also, during our 6 night stay, our room was only cleaned once. The free breakfast was terrible and inedible.

My hometown! We were in Minneapolis for a week to visit old friends. The staff at this property are outstanding and customer driven, particularly Max, and the rest of front of house. Breakfast was good - items changed every morning. Our room was very quiet. The hotel is convenient to mass transit, and right across the street from Southdale Mall (first enclosed mall in U.S.), but very modern with several restaurants. Laundry room is very useful; fitness room and pool also fine. There are a couple of parks close by for good walks.

So close to 5/5! Our family stayed at Homewood Suites, Edina during our Spring Break. We stayed in one of their 2 bedroom 2 bath suites. This location is say was kind of a mixed bag when it came to the typical Hilton standard we are used to. Some things were over and above and others not so much. Starting with some of the below standard items. We had the breakfast each morning which had a nice selection but all of the hot items were cold-warm but not hot. All of the beds on our room were rock hard! I typically do like a firmer mattress but we felt that the mattresses were definitely past their life. One last thing that I will admit I missed until I looked later was typically the suite we had at other locations had a stovetop in the room for cooking meals. Past stays at other Homewood / Hilton properties in this room type had a stovetop. This location does not have a stovetop in the room. Again I will admit it is something I missed when looking at the website, no where does it mention a stovetop on the locations room description. The room did however come with a toaster oven, microwave and full size refrigerator. The last thing is our room was not serviced each night. We stayed 4 nights and only were serviced by housekeeping once during our stay. We weren’t looking for full room service but fresh towels, refill soap bottles, dishwasher detergent, paper products etc. Now for the greats! There are quite a few things that this hotel we felt were above the Hilton standard we are used to! Prior to booking we reviewed the hotel and noticed there were a lot of complaints about cleanliness. We did not notice or experience anything unclean about this location! The rooms, hallways, elevators, pool, breakfast area everything was very clean! Another great thing we noticed is how friendly all the staff were. Every time we encountered a staff member we were greeted with a smile, and or a good morning, afternoon etc. The staff at the front desk did the same as we came and left each day! We took advantage of the keyless & contactless checkin / checkout for the first time here which was really nice! No need to stop at the front desk at check in or check out. Your cellphone acts as your room key. The Wednesday night social was also a nice touch! They had a limited selection of drinks and a nice selection of snacks available. Overall we enjoyed our stay and if in the area again would most likely give it another try. The location was nice with plenty of shopping and dining options nearby. We did notice they had an outdoor patio with grills available but we did not take advantage of due to a snowstorm during our stay. 4/5 rating we felt was fair which we think that a 5 would be easily attainable at this location
