The Las Vegas Strip: 24/7 Entertainment and Fine Dining

With an almost unlimited variety of casinos, bars and nightclubs, and live entertainment, the general consensus along the Las Vegas Strip seems to be “go big or go home.” And you can go really big here. Make a beeline for the dozens of 24-hour casinos lining the neon-lit Strip to tango with Lady Luck in high-stakes games of roulette, blackjack, and poker; or grab a front-row seat to the city’s over-the-top glitz at nightly magic, acrobatic, and musical performances. Be sure to stick around for mealtimes—casinos on the Strip are known for their fine-dining restaurants and extravagant buffets overflowing with crab legs and prime rib.

Even Sin City isn’t all casinos, all the time. Go shopping at the high-end boutiques found inside most hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, or head to Fashion Show Las Vegas to browse racks at Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue. You can also virtually travel the globe in just a few city blocks, thanks to the Strip’s re-creation of the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, and Venetian canals. And you’ll find a surprising number of activities in Las Vegas for kids hidden amid the raucous nightlife.

Enjoy the casino, but expect to be bilked by the hotel Such a potentially great vacation spot, unfortunately ruined by the hotel’s confusing and poorly designed attempts at automation, as well as their tone deaf “customer service.” Bottom line is that while the hotel room and casino themselves were excellent, our experience was primarily ruined by being overcharged for an extra night, despite checking out a day early. Problems started during check-in, when we were confronted with a line to the front desk stretching to the entrance foyer. Although we had used the automated system to check in prior to arrival, we still had to wait about 30 minutes in the queue just to get to the kiosks, which then directed us to get front desk assistance! When we finally got to the room, it was clean, comfortable and included a convenient mini-fridge. The casino itself was very good. The Horseshoe has multiple contained and nearby dining choices, as well as many and varied gaming options, including a well-run poker room. Honestly, things were going very well until the end of the trip. We had reserved a 5-night stay, but needed to change plans mid-trip and leave a day early. I contacted the automated concierge (Laurel) and was told we would be able to leave a day early, but would be charged a $50 early checkout fee. However, after actually checking out a day early (again using the automated system), we were surprised to find that the folio sent to my email included the full charge for the extra night we did not stay. Naturally, I contacted Caesars/Horseshoe customer service and explained the situation, including a copy of the texts with Laurel assuring us we would not be charged for the extra night. I was surprised to find them completely unreceptive. They insisted the charge would remain and, in fact, did end up charging my credit card for the full 5 nights.

Disappointing Stay I rarely leave negative reviews (and have stayed in Vegas many times), but our recent stay was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We paid an extra $20 per room for early check-in (two rooms total), yet still had only one person working the front desk, which resulted in a 30+ minute wait just to check in. I had already checked in online and attempted to use the kiosk, but was told we had to stand in line so the front desk could assign the adjoining rooms we were promised over the phone and through the text concierge. After all that, we still did not receive adjoining rooms. To be fair, the cocktail waitress offering champagne to guests in line was a nice touch—and honestly the only positive part of the check-in experience. The rooms were spacious but dated, with chipped paint on furniture and a general sense of wear. As soon as we got to the rooms, we realized they were located right by the road and monorail, resulting in constant noise all night long—no sleep whatsoever. The hallways and carpet were dirty, which only added to the disappointment. The worst part by far was the elevator situation. It appeared that only a few elevators were functioning, resulting in crowds of people waiting 30+ minutes just to go up or down. Guests resorted to riding elevators up just to eventually come back down. When I expressed concerns about overcrowded elevators and safety, the response from the text concierge was sarcastic and unhelpful, telling me to simply “don’t get on a crowded elevator.” I was also told this is normal on crowded dates- I've been in Vegas on extremely crowded dates and that was not the case in MGM properties. We asked if we could be moved to another Caesars property, and were basically told we could handle that ourselves. Fortunately, we transferred to Paris, where service was significantly better, the hotel was cleaner, and we had no elevator issues at all. Sadly, I cannot recommend this property based on our experience. There are better options within the Caesars brand nearby—you just shouldn’t have to work this hard to enjoy your stay.
