Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk's hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 80 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

_ Hotel Blue: Where the Ocean Meets Comedy Gold (and Jay, the Manager, Steals the Show) _ Let me start by saying this: Hotel Blue is the kind of place that makes you question why you’ve ever stayed anywhere else. Is it the beachfront views that slap you in the face with beauty every morning? The pillows that feel like clouds plucked straight from heaven? Or is it Jay, the manager, who’s basically a cross between Batman and Mr. Rogers—saving the day with a smile? Answer: All of the above. Location: Hotel Blue is so close to the ocean, I’m pretty sure the seagulls high-fived me through my balcony door. Myrtle Beach’s sand is basically the hotel’s welcome mat, and the sunrise views? Let’s just say I cried actual tears… or maybe that was saltwater spray. Hard to tell. The Room: I stayed in a suite that smelled like “freshly baked optimism” and was cleaner than my life choices. The bed was so comfortable, I debated faking my own disappearance to live there forever. Shoutout to the shower pressure—it could’ve power-washed my existential crisis away. And the balcony? Perfect for sipping coffee while pretending to be the protagonist of a rom-com. (Spoiler: A dolphin waved. I think it approved.) Amenities: The pool area is chef’s kiss—a tropical paradise minus the risk of mosquito bites. The breakfast buffet had pancakes so fluffy, I wrote a heartfelt poem about them. Pro tip: The coffee here is strong enough to revive a zombie. I signed a waiver after my third cup. No regrets. The Jay Factor: Now, let’s talk about Jay, the manager. This man is a hospitality wizard. When I accidentally locked myself out of my room (twice), Jay arrived faster than Uber Eats, grinning like he’d just won a game show. He’s the kind of guy who remembers your name, your dog’s name, and probably your astrological sign. One night, I jokingly asked for a butter knife to fight off a rogue jar of jelly. He showed up with three knives and a side of dad jokes. Legend. He really took a liking to my shorts. Jay runs the place with the charm of a late-night talk show host and the efficiency of a NASA engineer. Need a dinner recommendation? He’ll name every restaurant within 10 miles—and their soup of the day. Forgot sunscreen? He’s got a stash. Basically, he’s the human equivalent of a Swiss Army knife: handy, reliable, and surprisingly witty. Final Verdict: Hotel Blue isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a vibe. A “why-is-everyone-here-so-nice” vibe. A “Jay-just-upgraded-my-room-because-he-overheard-me-loving pineapple” vibe. If you leave without a smile, check your pulse.
