Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk’s hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 80 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

Good enough, could be better! Overall, my stay was pleasant. The weather helped. The room was clean. Only thing that I don't like was the checkout, and I think longtime customers should get a discount for being a loyal customer _

Very outdated Hotel that needs a lot of upkeep and renovation. No beach chairs or umbrellas anywhere. First of all the lobby is basically cement in the dark and a little scary. You can see what they call a lazy river it's indoors and very small and the water looks greenish brownish because the sides need cleaning. The pool is large and nice with lots and lots of chairs however there are no umbrellas at all. Not even on the two tables. So you have to lay in the hot sun. There are no beach chairs or umbrellas available to rent or borrow so if you want to go to the beach you either sit on the sand or you have to buy your own chairs and umbrellas at a store. Our first room smelled so bad of mold it was more than just musty it was actual mold. You open the kitchen cabinets and the smell of mold was intense. I woke up feeling quite sick so we had to change rooms and pack everything up even our food. A second room was musty but at least it didn't smell like mold. The kitchen was Tiny but it did work and the refrigerator was full size. Management was kind. The furniture is extremely dated like from the 70s or 80s but the bed was okay. The first room had the 1980s couch filled with stains. The second room's couch was a little better but I still wouldn't sit on it. The glass sliding door and our balcony was so hard to open and close almost impossible it was broken. But everything in the bathroom worked fine. The water pressure in the shower is very minimal and it takes forever to get conditioner out of your hair. What bothered me more than anything is we flew down here and didn't have beach chairs or umbrellas. We had to buy an umbrella and wasted our money because it broke immediately when the wind blew it was one of those cheap umbrellas from a beach store. We were sitting on some mats that the manager found in a back closet. It didn't last long. I found a tiny Shady spot by the pool. The area looks a little run down but I think it would be good for kids because there are amusement parks and tons of miniature golf places and loads of restaurants. No I would never stay here again.
