Wilmington, Delaware: 17th-Century Colony with Famed American-Art Museum

From its humble beginnings as a Swedish colony in the mid-1600s, Wilmington is steeped in a rich historical past. You'll find this history preserved and celebrated throughout the city amongst the many museums and monuments. The Delaware Art Museum is home to a vast collection of American art, including many by Edward Hopper, John Sloan, and Howard Pyle. Pyle is also credited with having started the Brandywine School at the end of the 19th century, a local organization that helped usher in the golden age of American illustration. The nearby Delaware Contemporary is Delaware's only contemporary art museum that showcases the works of local, regional, national, and international artists through compelling exhibitions and dynamic educational experiences. Immerse yourself in the Hagley Museum where you'll tour the gardens, mansion, powder yards, and exhibits on the former E.I. DuPont family estate.

If it's entertainment you're after, look no further than The Playhouse on Rodney Square. This century-old theater located at Hotel Du Pont and run by the Grand Opera House presents Broadway shows and musicals, stand-up comedy acts, and concerts by touring artists. Within a few blocks discover The Queen Theatre where you'll find even more live music, or the Grand Opera House to take in symphony orchestras, opera performances, dance, stand-up comedians, and concerts. Get your feet in on the action by strolling the Wilmington Riverwalk along the Delaware River; a 1.3-mile riverfront path that leads to the area's best outdoor attractions including a beer garden, children's museum, and an IMAX theater to name a few.

A trip for dinner I visited the Hotel DuPont today and had dinner with my family. The hotel looks very lovely and the valet staff (Jason) and the restaurant staff were very accommodating. I haven’t been to the hotel in many years but it still looks as beautiful as I remember it!

A Perfect Holiday Tradition at Hotel DuPont A Perfect Holiday Tradition at Hotel DuPont My family and I just wrapped up our fourth annual holiday visit to Hotel DuPont for the magnificent performance of The Nutcracker at The Playhouse, and once again, it was pure perfection! This has swiftly become our most cherished new family tradition, and every year, the experience somehow gets even better. From the moment we arrived, the Hotel DuPont hospitality shone brightly. The valet parking was easy and seamless, making the start of our evening stress-free. Culinary Delight at Le Cavalier Before the show, we dined at Le Cavalier, and the experience was truly exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was nothing short of excellent. It’s the perfect place to set a magical tone for the performance ahead. The Magic Continues The entire hotel glows with Christmas spirit, especially the spectacular Lobby Christmas Tree, which is a breathtaking centerpiece. We were able to grab a few more priceless family photos in front of it, thanks to the efficiency of the check-out process! Speaking of efficiency, the service as we were leaving was truly remarkable. Navigating a massive crowd of happy patrons after a show can sometimes be chaotic, but thanks to the incredible bellman, Mr. Bruce T., our exit was smooth and effortless. As I was pushing through the crowd, ticket in hand, without a coat in the bracing 17-degree cold, Mr. Bruce T. noticed me immediately. He asked if I was looking to pick up my vehicle and, without missing a beat, pointed me right to the desk area, advising me to ask for one of two front agents to pay and call for my car. This simple, attentive action saved us from wandering aimlessly outside and allowed our high Christmas Spirit to continue uninterrupted. Thank you, Bruce T., for being so incredibly attentive to all the guests! You noticed a small detail that made a massive difference and ensured a wonderful end to our perfect night. We cannot wait to return next year! Hotel DuPont, you are a treasure!
