Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains: Hiking, Trout Fishing, and Historical Towns

The Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania accounts for some 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. The area has been a popular vacation destination ever since Pennsylvania Quakers opened a hotel here on the Delaware River in 1829. Today, the Poconos draw more than 25 million annual visitors, thanks to year-round recreational opportunities and stunning natural scenery.

The warmer months are a great time to explore the region’s lakes and wooded hills. For spectacular hikes, check out Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where you can trek to dramatic waterfalls or follow a 27-mile section of the historic Appalachian Trail. A handful of little towns full of antique shops and galleries nestle in the mountains, too. You’ll find boutique wine galleries and historical mansions tucked away on country roads, including the late 19th-century Asa Packer Mansion, which is open for tours, in the borough of Jim Thorpe.

Even you like poor customer service, this is your spot! READ REVIEWS BEFORE STAYING!!! We booked three rooms with three different cards on Expedia. FIFTEEN minutes later we cancelled due to weather forecast bc we were to arrive on bikes. I also called and their response was “no refund because of 48 hour rule” booked on 6/05 at 8pm to arrive on 6/07 at 8 pm. Sounds like 48 hr window right? Nope, totally rude manager, Saede, refused to refund all three cards!!! Poor customer service is the worst thing a business owner can ever do!

Nice place, would recommend it. The resort is very nice, rooms were clean and staff was excellent. The Restaurants were expensive but that was expected. The casino was ok but don’t go there if you want to play roulette. At times it was 10 minutes between spins. I have never experienced that anywhere.

this place is a joke! stopped in to see how much a room would be for myself and wife for one nite and the place looked deserted including the lobby area except for one disinterested person at the check in who compltely ignored us til i looked to speak to her. she told us "no rooms are availabe" with some sort of excuse i had no idea what she meant about. don't get it- didn't see hardly any cars parked around, who knows? i won't be back.
