Hudson River Valley, New York: Gilded Age Estates and Historic Villages

The Hudson Valley begins just north of Manhattan, stretching upward along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers all the way to northern Westchester County. The area is known for massive Gilded Age estates once belonging to powerful names such as the Rockefellers and Roosevelts. Hyde Park, just north of Poughkeepsie, was the latter family’s home base; today it’s where you’ll find the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. Another village of historical interest is Sleepy Hollow, the setting for Washington Irving’s classic story about Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Irving is buried in the cemetery here, along with several famous industrialists including Andrew Carnegie and Walter P. Chrysler.

Situated just outside New Paltz, Minnewaska State Park Preserve is one of the region's most peaceful natural settings; come for the waterfalls, winding carriage roads, and stunning fall foliage. The valley also includes the state’s capital city of Albany, where visitors can learn more about the area and beyond at the New York State Museum.

Staff was amazing. I had substantial abdominal surgery several weeks before and needed to sleep upright. Employee Chris brought an armchair up to our room! We will stay again!

Beautiful, CLEAN and great value! What an amazingly great value and pleasant experience! My work requires me to be in White Plains/Nyack area every two-weeks for two-days. I search for hotels that look nice enough, but tend to go for lowest price. This has resulted in me almost always resulted in a cheap, not-so-clean, or safe hotel stay. I have seen the beautiful Nyack/JvD hotel from the road many times and when I saw on internet I assumed the prices weren't real and I would just be nickel-and-dimed to death bring the cost up to more than I wanted to spend. I finally took a chance, and man do I feel dumb not doing this sooner. The place has lots of parking, in a really safe and nice area, the building is beautiful and CLEAN, the staff were exactly what a traveler hopes for, the food was great, the bar was fun (I was there on a Monday night), my room was quirky cool - but more importantly CLEAN, comfortably modern, functional, and just an overall surprisingly lush experience and at a price that was simply affordable. What a great value! I will be staying here every two-weeks from now on. Don't pass by this hotel, stay here!

Perfect hotel for a visit to Sleepy Hollow We visited Sleepy Hollow for the Halloween parade and Hotel Nyack was the perfect place to stay across the Hudson. Everything in the room was clean, the vibe was unique and welcoming for a boutique hotel. We aren't sure what the negative reviews are about... we loved Hotel Nyack!! Great place to stay if you're in the area at a great price.

Not worth money, would avoid Stayed on a Friday and Saturday. Friday Night they have a salsa night until midnight. My suite was directly above the DJ. Had to hear loud music until midnight. Staff could not do anything due to being full. Would not recommend staying here on the weekends. Even on Saturday there was loud music in the bar area until Midnight. Stay was not worth the money spent. Would not stay hear again.
