Hudson River Valley, New York: Gilded Age Estates and Historic Villages

The Hudson Valley begins just north of Manhattan, stretching upward along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers all the way to northern Westchester County. The area is known for massive Gilded Age estates once belonging to powerful names such as the Rockefellers and Roosevelts. Hyde Park, just north of Poughkeepsie, was the latter family’s home base; today it’s where you’ll find the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. Another village of historical interest is Sleepy Hollow, the setting for Washington Irving’s classic story about Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Irving is buried in the cemetery here, along with several famous industrialists including Andrew Carnegie and Walter P. Chrysler.

Situated just outside New Paltz, Minnewaska State Park Preserve is one of the region's most peaceful natural settings; come for the waterfalls, winding carriage roads, and stunning fall foliage. The valley also includes the state’s capital city of Albany, where visitors can learn more about the area and beyond at the New York State Museum.

Staff was amazing. I had substantial abdominal surgery several weeks before and needed to sleep upright. Employee Chris brought an armchair up to our room! We will stay again!

Not My Cup Of Tea “The staff at the Nyack Hotel were lovely and very welcoming. Unfortunately, the hotel itself felt cold and uninviting—more like staying in a storage unit than a cozy place to relax. I couldn’t get past waking up with that feeling.” Plenty of parking but probably wouldn’t return back.

Very Noisy and Not a good experience This hotel sucks....THIS HOTEL IS NOISY ON ANY DAY OF THE WEEK..big open ceilings and right next to the highway....it was my second visit and in the middle of the week... it was just as bad as the first. My first visit was in 2023 on a weekend and there was a wedding in the area and many hotel guests attended. They came back at 1am and partied until about 4am with the staff doing nothing about it. I went down at 5am and slept in the lobby. My second visit in Dec 2025 was for the wake and funeral for my sister. I called the day before to ask for an early check-in as I was driving 5 hours from home and needed to be at the wake for 330pm. When I arrived at 12pm I was told the room was ready but if I checked in before 230pm there woukld be a $100 fee...this is unconscionable. I eneded up checking in at 230pm and having to race to the funeral home. We went to the bar after the wake and the food was just OK and very overpriced. I wont be back

Avoid this hotel at all costs Stayed at the hotel recently on a three day business trip. Terrible experience. Handicap parking requires significant walking. Heating and air conditioning in room, loud and ineffective. Shut it off just did not hear the noise and sleep. Only a two prong outlet at the desk, which does not fit in a three prong laptop, power cord. Insane. Food at the restaurant was decent, however the catering food was absolutely awful and Dry. The wake up calling system was down, but the front desk attendant refused to do a man Manuel call in the morning. Insane pathetic. Avoid this hotel. Absolutely not a business hotel. So many flaws. Portrays itself as a quirky boutique hotel don’t be fooled by this. Awful experience. Run away from this property.
