Manhattan's Lower East Side: Chic Boutiques, Restaurant Row, and Contemporary-Art Galleries

In recent years, the Lower East Side’s identity as a welcome mat for newcomers has shifted as gentrification began to reshape the neighborhood. Pushcarts and rundown storefronts have given way to trendy boutiques along Orchard Street and a chic “restaurant row” on Clinton Street. What's more, the relocation of the New Museum has attracted a slew of contemporary art galleries. Some of the old mainstays have stuck around, though, including Katz’s Delicatessen and Russ & Daughters, which has been selling premium smoked fish, bagels, and other specialty foods since 1914.

This place was amazing. Nice hotel, tucked away. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The room was very quaint, not over the top, but perfect for a romantic getaway.

If, like me, youre expecting a nice renovation of the old hotel- think again... What was once one of my favorite hotels in NYC now barely rates two stars. I won't be staying there again. It was OK and fun before covid, then it was closed for "renovation". The lobby and restaurant look great; the rest of the hotel not so much. The renovation of the upstairs and rooms was sorely lacking as well as the overall treatment of the hotel experience- such as no luggage racks, worn towels, doors that don't shut properly, light switches, handles and hardware not affixed, nothing in the mini bar, no water bottles or anything of comfort in the room, which looked painted but not at all what I would consider "renovated". The hallway carpet was dirty, hallways unclean and only one elevator working. And that's just to name just what comes to mind at the moment. Otherwise the staff was pleasant. But if you're looking for anything over an iffy 2-star hotel my advice is spring for somewhere else.

Great location to explore downtown Great location, staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit dated. Hotel is undergoing renovation, hopefully that will be addresses soon. VIP Hilton continental breakfast was presented beautifully and was plentiful of options.

Some rooms in bad shape The A/C was busted, the lights were broken and wonky and would either not turn on or stay off. The bathroom was disgusting - filthy with the top to the toilet tank always ajar, the toilet barely flushing and constantly making weird noises, the tiles were coming out, door locks were all busted, shower knobs, etc were broken. The AC was constantly on the fritz, making the room swampy. Also everything just felt dirty and gross. This would never be tolerated at a Motel 6. The only positive is the staff was very friendly and welcoming - but the rooms need a complete overhaul.
