San Francisco’s South of Market Neighborhood: Museums, Gardens, and Tech Headquarters

Just north of the popular Mission District, South of Market (or SoMa, as it’s sometimes called) is a vast neighborhood that contains many of the city’s best museums, including the Asian Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Yerba Buena Gardens displays a number of outdoor art pieces and a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, which sits behind a 50-foot-high waterfall. The public gardens, a butterfly garden among them, cover two city blocks.

Quite a few Silicon Valley companies have had headquarters in South of Market, including Twitter, Yelp, and Wired. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is one of Apple Inc.’s favorite venues for unveiling new products—Steve Jobs introduced the iPod and the iPad to the world from its stage.

Great place to stay in San Francisco Hotel is located in the center of San Francisco. We parked car in garage in the hotel which is gated and itvwas very safe. Great rooms. Clean. Very friendly staff. Breakfast is very basic. Would encourage to improve breakfast options and have more tables and chairs for breakfast area

There is no elevator. I repeat THERE IS NO ELEVATOR. To be fair, the hotel is clean, the beds were comfortable, the front desk staff were friendly and the rooms were modern. But that’s all the hotel has going for it. My travel agent picked this hotel for us after looking at their website. The website makes the hotel look like a 5 star resort. Don’t be deceived by the photos. The rooms are very small, they may be ok for a couple needing overnight accommodation, but not for a family on a vacation. The website mentions they are central to everything in San Francisco. On day one, I spoke to a staff member about the local tourist sites, he directed us to Pier 39 which was amazing, but it was 25 minutes away in an Uber. The hotel is not central to everything. I wish I stayed somewhere closer to the tourist areas . I took my young family on walks to discover the area. There are homeless people everywhere in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, a lot of them were drug and/or alcohol affected and they really scared my kids. My number one thing I HATED about the hotel is there is NO ELEVATOR. There are signs saying that it’s under repair, but I have never heard of an elevator being under repair for years. If I knew there was no elevator and I’d have to carry all our bags up two flights up stairs, I would never have allowed our travel agent to book for this hotel. My family and I are travelling around the USA and we have all agreed this hotel was by far the worst hotel we have stayed at in the USA.
