Costa Mesa, California: Art Galleries and Eclectic Shopping near Newport Beach

The Orange County city of Costa Mesa is known as the “City of the Arts” for its acclaimed art galleries and Broadway performances. The New York Times calls the city “a cultural beacon,” centering on the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, a striking modern facility that houses several auditoriums. Among these is the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall; it has hosted the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg, Russia. Costa Mesa also offers shopping that rivals Rodeo Drive, as well as renowned sculpture gardens and several area golf courses.

There’s plenty of surf and sand within reach, too: SoCal’s most famous beaches—Huntington, Laguna, and Newport—are all within about 10 miles. Newport Beach is home to The Wedge, a jetty renowned for its massive waves, and pickup volleyball games line the sands of Huntington Beach.

Shoddy M Club, Courtyard feel This hotel is fine, but doesn’t warrant the Marriott name, and certainly not the 4.5 rating it has earned on this website. There is no recognition for Elite members; the room “upgrade” we received was simply a basic room on a high floor. The M Club lounge is simply the worst I’ve ever seen, with bare bones breakfast offerings, no snacks or drinks offered; it’s basically just eggs in the morning and coffee during the day. The Sheraton in nearby Garden Grove has a far superior concierge lounge at half the nightly rate. Parking is exorbitantly priced, with no options for street parking within at least 1 mile. I’m stuck here for another night, and can hardly wait until check out so I can move on to another, better hotel.

Nice hotel but they loose points on coffee and peloton Hotel is clean and nice. Rooms are very spacious. No coffee available unless you purchase. In order to use the peloton they charge a one time $150 fee. Lunch available but times they are open are limited and late. Hotel was busy and pool noise at night is loud. Ask for room not facing the pool.

Super helpful staff! A very nice Marriott. Rooms were clean and large. More importantly the staff was excellent. I want to give a special shout out to Chuong. I had inadvertently left a favorite blazer behind in our meeting room. When I called, he took personal charge boxing and shipping my blazer to my home. Many thanks!
