San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

Wonderfully Friendly Staff, Funky fun vipe, great location I booked for 2 nights while I was between staying with friends in the city. I live in Oakland, but am out of my house while my landlord is doing mold repairs. It’s fun to play tourist and enjoy staying in different neighborhoods. This has been one of my favorite stays. The staff have been absolutely wonderful. 2 nights turned into extending a night, then another. When I booked the 4th night, they didn’t have more rooms in that tier available, so they upgraded me to a suite for a very reasonable rate. That room was amazing! I extended 3 more nights, and had date nights with my boyfriend. The staff! Maria had been an absolute gem. She’s so knowledgeable, kind and was very patient with some obnoxious guests checking in while I waiting to be helped next. Ben is a sweetheart as well. There’s no ice machine, and you have to call or ask at the front desk. So Mariano the houseman usually brought it, and came to vacuum when I spilled the snacks I was cleaning up from the little get together we had Saturday. Lina was lovely. Rose and Susan on the housekeeping staff left sweet touches when they refreshed my room for me. Johnny, the night attendant is quietly funny and very sweet as well. Thank you everyone for making me feel so at home! Hinodeya (best veggie ramen ever) is open late and right around the corner. PLS in Post, the restaurant in the hotel is delish, and has great cocktails too!

A good experience Overall, it's a good hotel, well-located but in a less than attractive area. Helpful staff. Good amenities. They should expand the breakfast menu.
