San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

Huge disappointment Stay elsewhere! This hotel is a huge disappointment. While the hotel staff is truly amazing it's always dubious ethically of management to advertises all the hotel amenities then make them all unavailable during your stay. it should honestly be illegal since hotels can't seem to police themselves. We arrived to find a 'convention' of JP Morgan employees staying at the hotel. That resulted in all advertised amenities being 'closed for a private event' so basically available only to the bankers. No lobby, no games room, no restaurant, no coffee, no bar. Literally could not even get a drink at the bar or a cup of coffee in the morning. My husband started to play pool and we were immediately stopped and told it was 'closed to guests, only available to the 'private event'. The hotel room itself was nothing like advertised. I guess it's been refurbished? Sparse and spare. grey and white. NOTHING in terms of conveniences. No coffee machine, no kettle, literally nothing to welcome you or make your stay nicer but an $8 bottle of water. One chair, one lamp, two beds, a desk. Check in was a chaotic nightmare. ONE person doing everything at the front desk. No help with luggage, no luggage trolly. It was so overwhelming and so much to keep track of I left my phone behind on the counter. The lobby was so loud with the convention attendees we had to shout and the poor woman at the front desk was doing her absolute best with the noise and lack of support. She was amazing in spite of it; efficient and kind. It was so overwhelming and so much to keep track of I left my phone behind on the counter. The woman at the front desk held it for me while juggling several other people and all the noise so a huge ' thank you' to her and the rest of the lovely staff. Room service is basically take out from the restaurant so served in take out containers with plastic cutlery. So no real room service set up with plates, table etc. Again, however, the staff is so kind and efficient doing their absolute best. I wish I could give the staff 5 stars and the hotel 2. We are in for a medical procedure so could have really used some amenities and a nice room. Sadly got neither.
