Baltimore, Maryland: World-Class Museums and Historic Waterfront Neighborhoods

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor—a busy port that was redeveloped as a tourism district in the mid-20th century—has become one of the city’s best-known and most beloved landmarks. Water taxis ferry visitors from one historic, cultural, or family-friendly attraction to another. Sites along the routes include the star-shaped Fort McHenry (where US forces repelled the British during the War of 1812, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner”) and restaurants where you can sample the city’s famous crab cakes.

You’ll find several unique museums here, too, from the National Aquarium—which houses more than 16,000 sea creatures in realistic habitats—to the wonderfully oddball American Visionary Art Museum, one of the country’s leading institutions for outsider art. For a stunning view of the skyline, the Inner Harbor, and Chesapeake Bay, head up to the 27th floor of the Baltimore World Trade Center, where you can see the city from 360 degrees at the observation deck.

Mediocore Check-in was at 4 pm. We were told the room was still being cleaned and should only be another 30 minutes. We did not get into our room until after 6 pm. Not even an apology for the delay. We sat in the lobby and no one checked in with us. The "bar" was nothing. The receptionists that were checking in customers were also the "bartenders." After we finally got to our room, we called twice but eventually just went down to the desk to ask for extra towels because no one ever delivered towels to us. Photos of the pool looked big and gorgeous. That was the whole reason we booked with this hotel. The pool was maybe 5 feet long by 4 feet wide. And you have to make a reservation to use the pool because there was no way more than 4 people were able to sit in the pool. On the bright side, the room was very clean and the pillows were comfortable. Next time we stay in the city, we will be staying somewhere else.

Nice staff but rooms need attention First of all, the room initially assigned was already occupied. The front desk staff apologized, indicated I would get an upgrade, the only upgrade was a slightly higher floor. The sofa in the room looked rather dirty and did not feel comfortable sitting on. The hotel overall needs remodeling. Staff was friendly so nothing to fault them on.

Great hotel near Little Italy I’ve stayed here every year for the past 7 years (only missing one year due to Covid). The hotel is very clean, quiet, and comfortable. It’s within walking distance of the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, and Little Italy. The hotel’s complimentary breakfast is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurants nearby are amazing.
