Santa Rosa: Gateway to Sonoma's Storied Vines and Scenic Heritage

Nestled in the heart of Sonoma County, Santa Rosa is more than just a charming Northern California town—it is the cultural and historical soul of Wine Country. Once home to the Pomo people and later a central outpost during California’s early settlement, Santa Rosa bears the imprint of history on every street corner, from its preserved Victorian architecture to the legacy of famed horticulturist Luther Burbank. The city blends a pastoral elegance with a deep-rooted sense of place, surrounded by rolling vineyards, ancient redwoods, and the enduring beauty of the Russian River Valley.

Yet Santa Rosa is far from a relic—it’s a vibrant hub where heritage meets innovation. Visitors can explore the engaging museums and art galleries downtown, stroll through the historic Railroad Square, or sip world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay straight from the barrel in surrounding estate wineries. With the rugged Pacific coast just a short drive away and the scenic charm of neighboring towns like Healdsburg and Sebastopol within easy reach, Santa Rosa stands as both a destination in its own right and a gateway to the diverse splendors of Northern California’s famed wine region.

Dated and pricey but still a decent stay This was our second stay here but it’s been more then a few years since our last visit. Staff was professional but not friendly. We had reservations for an upgraded room with scenic views but what we got was a secondary building with views of an another connected building and lot of bird poop. This room was very small, dark, smelled of old mildew and seemed very dated, the in room phone wasn’t working and it was a lil difficult to get to with all our luggage. We immediately called the front desk and got another upgraded fee they were able to move us to a different room, this time it was in the main building and it actually matched our prior reservation that we had already paid for the upgrade on. The entire place seemed dated but still clean and acceptable for this short visit. The grounds outside were still nice and they had a nice area at night with a fire pit to enjoy. They did have a small wine tasting area and also a coffee station. We also had to pay additional amount for parking, that was pretty difficult unless you wanted to park really far out . Still a great location near town..

Classy and comfortable Everything here exceeded expectations, staff was exceptional, and the room was comfortable while also feeling upscale. I visited for a vacation and it was the best sleep I've ever gotten at a hotel. I plan to come back in July, it was that good!

Outstanding experience! Great stay with hospitable staff! Although this was rated a 4 star, I felt like I was part of a 5 star! Because it was Mother's day weekend, they hooked us up with a complimentary upgrade to a suite, along with vouchers for free breakfast! This added a nice extra touch in the morning as we didn't have to go hungry!

Napa wine tasting -great weekend! We went wine tasting in Napa and didn't want to drive home, so we found a Hyatt nearby. We had a great time, and we loved the fireplace outside. The staff was extremely friendly, and our room was very clean and had a great view of the outdoor patio.
