Leavenworth, Washington: Bavarian-Themed Town near Skiing and Whitewater Rafting

Located in the Cascade Range, Leavenworth draws visitors all year long with an abundance of outdoor activities. In the winter, skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes at nearby Stevens Pass. Hikers and whitewater rafters take over in the warmer months. About 700 miles of trails surround the town, meandering through the mountains and the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The Icicle and Wenatchee Rivers run through the area as well, attracting rafters with Class II and III rapids.

Leavenworth is a center for all things Bavarian. You’ll find German-style bakeries, bars with beer gardens, and several restaurants where you can try kielbasa, bratwurst, ciderkraut, and specialty mustards. The town’s annual Oktoberfest takes place over the course of three weekends, beginning with a procession of villagers sporting traditional dirndls and lederhosen.

Really great experience! Clean room, amazing walk in shower, friendly staff, complimentary breakfast was a plus! I love how they allow dogs too. I saw lots of happy and cute furry friends :) and it's very close to the rollercoaster and short walk to downtown area as well as the waterfront!

Clean, comfy, and everything we asked for We stayed in the Wager Suite for an anniversary celebration. First time doing a full "treat yourself" kinda weekend, and the Icicle (and Leavenworth) did not disappoint. Jake, at the front desk, let us check in early, which we really appreciated -- that really made for a full fun-day which we were not anticipating. The room was perfect for us. Neat and clean and quiet. We had a lovely view of Tumwater Canyon and the rollercoaster. We loved sitting on the balcony playing our backgammon game (brought from home), and watching the views, the birds, and the people we could sorta see walking below to and from the pool and playing minigolf. We found our king size bed very comfy and slept great both nights. The microwave was perfect for heating up water for tea (sorry, no Keurig-water for my tea, please ;) The mugs provided in the room were lovely and large, just how I like my cups of tea. (I resisted the urge to take one home with me and instead purchased a hand-thrown mug from local artist, Amy Headrick.) The mini fridge was perfect for storing a few snacks and some milk. We even tried the jetted tub - better than I'd expected (I was hesitant to try a hotel jetted tub, but it looked and smelled clean so we went for it, it was great). The fireplace also worked as expected although we only had it on for 10 min or so. The free breakfasts were amazing and we grabbed that grub each morning before we headed out on adventures. All the employees we interacted with were so nice and helpful. Honestly, the only thing we could think of as far as, "room for improvement" would be a more effective bathroom fan, but this is an older building and I'm sure that is a costly change -- we just opened the slider for fresh air ;) The swimming pool was amazing and warm enough even for me -- a total wimp when it comes to cold water. The hot tub was also perfect. We went back and forth several times on both days we were there. Lastly, we really treated ourselves with a couples massage at the Alpine Spa - first time we've ever splurged on such a thing in all our 35 yrs together. That was also great (thank you, Emily and Christian!). Finally, we like that the Icicle is within walking distance to downtown, but not so close where you might get tons of noise. Also, you can take the Link bus if you're not in a walking mood! This was our third time staying in Leavenworth. We have stayed somewhere different each time because we don't like to try and recreate a special experience, but we predict we'll be back to the Icicle. Thank you Icicle Village Resort team!

A Must Stay in Leavenworth! Had our first trip to Leavenworth and really enjoyed our short stay at the Icicle Village Resort. If you want first class service then that is your place to go since the staff is friendly and attentive and helped make our stay very enjoyable. Had a nice view of the mountains and rooms were very clean and had just the right amenities. Also, had a complete complimentary breakfast which helped us start our day right. Short walk to the center of the town. Definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Leavenworth.
