Hotel at a Glance: Indian Wells Resort Hotel

Founded in 1957 by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Indian Wells Resort Hotel attracted a roster of A-list guests from the get-go. Designed as an exclusive getaway, the resort gave celebrities a chance to golf, play tennis, and lounge poolside in the desert sun. You can follow in their footsteps today at the retro-chic hotel, which channels the glamour of Palm Springs’s midcentury heyday.

  • Tee off on Indian Wells Country Club’s private course—where Presidents Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford once played—or on Indian Wells Golf Resort’s two mountainside courses.
  • Perks: Your stay includes welcome drinks and a full daily breakfast for two.
  • Where you’ll stay: Guest rooms’ private balconies offer views of the pool or the desert landscape. One-bedroom suites look out on the Santa Rosa Mountains and the country club.
  • Ol’ Blue Eyes was the inspiration for the onsite restaurant and lounge, Frank’s Place. Savor Italian dishes such as veal milanese and enjoy live music on select nights.
  • Sip tropical drinks and relax poolside at Palm Terrace, which overlooks the golf course’s 11th green.

Indian Wells, California: Desert City with Outdoor Recreation and Hollywood History

The temperate weather and tucked-away feel of Indian Wells—located 17 miles southeast of Palm Springs—attracted Hollywood royalty to the area in the 1950s and ’60s. President Dwight D. Eisenhower enjoyed the area so much that he made Indian Wells his winter home.

Though it experienced a lull at the turn of the century, the greater Palm Springs area has emerged once again as a vacation hot spot. The sun shines roughly 350 days a year here, so the abundant hiking trails and designer golf courses stay open all year. Luxury spas and boutique shops fill Palm Springs’s glitzy downtown area, which is surrounded by chic midcentury hotels and elaborate, Mediterranean-inspired villas.

Everything! From Start to Finish, excellent customer service, all the amenities, the atmosphere, hotel decor, live dinner show, and did I mention the Extras! Breakfast was delicious and they even include drink vouchers for the bar. This was a perfect escape and break from the norm. I can’t wait to do this again! Absolutely amazing deal!

EXTRA FEES NEVER MENTIONED - BEWARE! Charged a $25 parking fee which was never mentioned by anyone until I called the hotel afterwards - why the extra fee when there was so much parking. No other CHEAP hotel charges you for parking in the area. Called the hotel and they were very rude. $150 deposit and a parking fee for an old run down hotel. STAY AWAY!!!

A Desert Icon Do yourself a favour and stay at this iconic desert hotel. Dripping with Hollywood nostalgia, one can almost feel the presence of silver screen legends long passed. Overlooking a sparkling pool and immaculately manicured golf course and surrounded by majestic desert palms, the hotel affords its visitors a quiet and comfortable base from which to explore Indian Wells, Palm Desert and Palm Srings, as well as the Desert Hot Springs area. The rooms are well equipped, with large flat- screen TV, ironing facilities, coffee maker and safe. After a long day of sightseeing, the comfort of a large shower and soft luxurious bed awaits. Or, for those not ready to retreat to the tranquility of the hotel room, an inviting bar and dining area offers sustenance and entertainment for everyone. Overall? A desert oasis that will be remembered long after the journey is over.

Good and not so good Rooms were good price was good but parking is a rip at 25 a day, and beware while listening to entertainment because they charged us 2 1/2 times regular cost for well drinks. Also my wife was having a person issue and they next day when my wife wasn't there one of the staff said my wife would get mad if i dropped the food because she was special. We have stayed there before 3 times and it always been a great stay but it was a miss this time around. Check out and check in was good. The air was loud and made the room humid and the bed really was so soft we sank to the middle of it.
