Roatán, Honduras: Diver’s Paradise with Dense Jungle Interior

Though Roatán—the largest of Honduras’s Bay Islands—used to be plagued by pirates looting the gold of Spanish galleons, most of the popular shipwrecks were purposefully sunk for divers. But that doesn’t make the many dive sites surrounding the island any less appealing. Walls of coral and more than 800 species of fish have turned them into natural wonders. Starfish, sea turtles, and eels are common sights during scuba-diving and snorkeling trips. The crystal-clear waters contain a wealth of Mayan, Paya, and Garifuna artifacts as well.

Farther inland, dense jungles and grassy hills stretch across the surface of the island. From the secluded bays of Roatán’s East End, you can get a change of scenery by taking winding dirt roads to smaller villages. The towns of Coxen Hole and French Harbour in particular provide a taste of local culture in the form of street vendors, an iguana farm, and shrimp fishers working the docks.

Unbelievably gorgeous location; hotel super-nice: modern, clean and instantly felt 'at home' and relaxed. Amazing pool / palapa area, Basement check-in area unpleasant and so unlike rest of hotel, but new building will change all that. Super comfortable condo. Loved, loved, loved it and will be back!

Third time was definitely charming! We just returned from a relaxing trip to Honduras! Infinity Bay is everything we love about vacationing in Roatan. It was our third trip to Infinity Bay and was even better than the previous trips! Their newly renovated exterior is so beautiful and the new pool just means more fun for guests! We love the transportation to and from the airport on our schedule. It really is the perfect getaway!

Really nice resort but! This is a really nice resort. The staff is excellent. The rooms are large and well maintained. If you select having just the breakfast instead of choosing all-inclusive, you will not be disappointed, as it is a full selection of well-cooked food that will please all guests. The beach is excellent as advertised, but be warned that it can be crowded, and the vendors that sell on the beach are persistent. We went to Roatan for the snorkeling and though there are not many fish to see directly in front of the resort, if you go the south end of the beach, the fish there are in abundance as they know they will be fed by the bathers. You should only feed the fish with cat food, the small pellet type that can be bought at the supermarket, and if you go further out at the front of the resort with the cat food, the fish there will appear. Now to the issues that for a highly rated resort are curiously omitted. There isn’t a radio alarm clock in the bedroom; nor a phone – there is only one and that is in the kitchen; there are no notepads or pens anywhere; though it is a large-screen TV, there is no card showing the list of channels, plus the picture quality is poor and when you find the page on the TV that has the list of channels – it doesn’t display what is on those channels, as it says ‘sans information’ for every channel. Now I know you don’t go on vacation to just watch TV, but it is nice once in a while, regrettably though all the information on the TV is in Spanish. Also with the TV is that although the pay channels are listed, such as Disney+, HBO, Starz, Netflix etc, they are not provided, and I was told that I needed my membership logon to those channels to be able to watch them. They would only set up those pay channels if you had that information with you. Additionally, there are no USB charging outlets in the accommodation, so you need a USB adaptor to charge your devices. The A/C is in a closet and it is loud, so is the coffee maker, at least in our room. It is a typical resort that only uses 1-ply toilet rolls, which is false economy as I use 4 times as much as a regular 2-ply roll. When it came to checking out, the day before leaving I wanted to go online to print my boarding passes but they do not have a computer station that you can use. I know these days that you can do it on your phone and get the boarding passes sent to your email, but you can’t print them from your phone.

Just ok We have been here twice and the resort is showing its age, the grounds are kept really clean, but it definitely needs a remodel. The room we were in had dated, well worn furniture. Was not the cleanest room. I don't think it is worth the price they charge. When we visited they were in the midst of building a huge new pool area. Not sure why because the large pool they already have is rarely busy. It is located right on the beach and walkable to many restaurants which was great. Snorkeling right off the beach is wonderful!
