Monticello, New York: One of the largest villages in the county

Those who are already fed up with the hustle and bustle of major cities may take a deep breath and truly unwind in Monticello, New York. However, there's plenty of attractions here, too. One of the most notable landmarks is the village's Monticello Raceway that attracts visitors from various parts of the country. Now the raceway has turned into a racino which hosts both electronic slot machines and horse racing. What's more, the neighboring area features Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. It's also fine if guests start missing more noisy places as New York is just about 100 miles away.

Kalahari and Camelback resort was a better experience Restaurants at this resort for dine in is mostly close. My family and I were hungry. The pizza i bought at Surf side Grille for my kids was under cooked. This experience was the worst. I visited Kalahari and Camelback resort and it was better. Also there is not many rides the way it looks on the commercial. The only good thing is the rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable.

Not a destination location Skip this. We booked a two night stay here on the way to drop a kid off at summer camp. We enjoy water park hotels and resorts that have amenities available. The Kartrite purports itself to be a “fantastic new lodge” experience- it’s overpriced, relatively boring and lacks amenities. We booked a two bedroom two bathroom room with a balcony. For an extra $50.00 we were able to secure an early check-in (everything costs extra at this “resort”). The room itself was fine and spacious. But the lighting was abysmal in the living room area- it was very dark unless the curtain was open. The bathroom products were attached to the wall- but smelled nice. The body lotion came in individual packets and the hand soap had no lather to it. Beds were pretty hard. Our room had disgusting dust all around the vents. My biggest complaint about the room- and I know it’s petty- but the balcony floor was painful requiring shoes. There is no daily housekeeping included but you can pay extra for it- again- when already paying exorbitant room fees not including housekeeping is a disgusting money grab. The lobby area has a lot of ample seating but the carpet is vile. Truly, I’ve never seen a carpet this disgusting in my life. Stains all over the green carpet. In terms of the “resort” experience- sourcing food was a challenge. Bixby’s, the most expensive restaurant, has a limited and odd menu with NYC prices but lacks NYC quality. Dinner for two adults and two kids came close to $130.00 before a tip. The buffet- which is far more suitable for children only had dinner and breakfast hours on weekends- not ideal for a stay that includes Sunday and weekdays. The “breakfast” restaurant, The Highline, was charging close to $10.00 for a breakfast sandwich and $5.00 for a mediocre coffee. The Americana room was a nice touch with some free activities for the kids but mostly it was a pay per activity space - $15.00 for slime making etc. Beyond these issues the Waterpark was only mediocre. The biggest lack in the water park was no wave pool or swimming pool. The closest there was “Affinity Springs” which was a large indoor/outdoor hot tub. The littlest kid area was small. The lazy river was fast and enjoyable but slightly dangerous with families overcrowding and rafting up their floats. Overall, this was likely a one and done for us. It’s not a Great Wolf or Kalahari by any stretch.

Magnificent Monticello! Very serene and quaint hotel nestled in the Catskills! If you love nature and water, this is the place to be for anyone of all ages. The staff is very attentive and even at times when busy they still managed to have the patience of saints. Nice rooms and views!
