Mountain Lodge at Keystone Ski Resort

Nestled among three peaks in the Rocky Mountains, Keystone is a mecca for skiers in Colorado. At the center of the massive Keystone Resort is Keystone Lodge & Spa, an AAA Four-Diamond, 152-room retreat overlooking the mountains, Keystone Lake, and the Snake River.

The hotel’s expansive spa boasts a steam room, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, and a swimming pool. Only organic and sustainable products are used in the spa’s treatments. These include the Coco-Luscious wrap, during which the body is buffed with a mixture of raw sugar cane and virgin coconut oil, then exfoliated by gentle pineapple and mango acids and hydrated with papaya body butter.

The lodge’s restaurant, Bighorn, features beautiful views of Keystone Lake and the Continental Divide. The menu lists American beef as well as a wide selection of wild game and fresh seafood. Lakeside Deli offers grab-and-go sandwiches perfect for those headed out on the trail, and Edgewater Café focuses on breakfast and lunch, which can be enjoyed on a lakeside patio.

Keystone, Colorado: Thousands of Skiable Acres near Family-Friendly Historical Towns

With North America’s Continental Divide snaking through the area, northwest Colorado boasts some of the world’s most popular ski resorts and several mountains reaching elevations of more than 13,000 feet. One of the popular resort areas, Keystone, encompasses three mountains, more than 3,000 skiable acres, two gondolas, and 20 lifts full of skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoers, as well as the state’s most expansive night skiing.

Each mountain has different levels of difficulty. The highest peak, The Outback, is crisscrossed with expert-level runs that weave around towering pines. There’s also tubing at the mountain’s Adventure Point, a brand-new ice-skating rink in downtown River Run, and sleigh rides through the powdery backcountry. Ski season typically runs through early April; the mountain is open for skiing and riding until April 20, 2014.

In addition to their picturesque scenery, many of the towns near Keystone feature historical attractions. The Victorian architecture in Breckenridge provides a glimpse into the town’s 19th-century mining days—which you can learn more about on guided walking tours.
